Spotify WiiM Pro Plus will only show up as a Chromecast Device in Spotify for Android

Think is a Android 16 thing, as the same applies on other brands (Cambridge Audio for me).
It happens - in my research - when multiple Google Cast devices are present. If the streamer is the single device, it works with both protocols enabled.
...go figure ;)

As noted here, this issue occurs only on my Galaxy device (Android 15/One UI 7.0) out of my three Android devices. Based on reports from multiple members, I believe this is a specific issue affecting at least certain Galaxy and Pixel models (UI). Presumably, the Spotify app needs to address this problem.

Currently, there are two workarounds available to us:

1) Disable Google Cast within the WiiM app.

2) Register Spotify as a preset and initiate playback using the preset button.

Enabling or disabling IPv6 - as mentioned by @stefanks - is a new approach not covered in the discussion so far.

It could have bee coincidence, but so far I'd say it's worth a try for everyone suffering from this Spotify/Google incompatibility.

I have disabled IPv6 in my home network and in WiiM and any other device since long time already.

I have no doubt about it. That's no proof, though. Even just making the switch from on to off, or off to on, or maybe off, then on then off again could make a difference. This is definitely a bug (most likely but not 100% sure on Spotify's end), so unrelated settings.can have an influence.

There's also no proof that the issue is related to IPv6, of course. As I said before, it could have been just coincidence. But if switchin IPv6 of was.the only change, indeed, then it's still worth a try, at least for those who didn't have it enabled before.

I'm on Android 16, my WiiM Amp Ultra has Google Cast (and IPv6) enabled and I have no issue with Spotify Connect (lossless). I cannot switch Spotify to use Google Cast, though.

The issue is real, but it's not as simple as "you need to disable Google Cast when your phone runs Android 16“.

Agreed. Multiple factors comes into play - and not just with WiiM devices.

I was able to see the Spotify connect in Spotify app after disabling Google cast in the Wiim app under voice and streaming in browse.

Ugh. Just stumbled on this thread after reading a similar thread. I use Chromecast for YT Music and Connect for Spotify. Because of this issue, I have to turn off Chromecast to use Spotify Lossless. So, basically I don't use YT Music as much any more because it's a pain having to turn CC on and off to get each service to work right. Hope a workaround shows up.

Indeed, still super annoying. Means I have to faff about if I want to cast something like BBC Sounds as I leave CC disabled on the WiiM most the time. Family also confused and think they're doing something wrong...

I just pulled out an old iPad to avoid the issue. I think that solution will last about 10 minutes until I get super annoyed with using an iPad again. :-)

Just registered to say: I had this exact problem since i renamed my WiiM pro several months ago, to a name with a Space character in it
I just renamed it to remove the space and bingo, it's back working again as a Spotify Connect device from the Android app
Super weird how it worked fine all along from the Windows and IOS apps. But whatever, it seems fixed now for Android too with this work around

I tried renaming. I didn't have a space but did have a hyphen. Made no difference, as soon as I enabled Google Cast again I could no longer find the device with Spotify connect (Pixel 10).

So, as a next step you immediately removed the hyphen and the result was ... what? :D

We have no real proof that renaming works anyway. Why would it. I just renamed my Amp "Office" and it still shows up in Spotify Connect as a Chromecast device. On Android 13.
Proof is difficult to have with all those different operating systems and their versions, combined with constantly changing app and firmware versions. ;)

Someone posted this experience,.but it might just have been coincidence. Some changes might not take effect until the device in question is rebooted, some will. It's not easy at all.

The issue is in the new Android version of the Spotify app. Older versions of the app works ok.

The issue have been known by Spotify since October last year and has not been acknowledged as a bug by Spotify support.

As described elsewhere, disabling Google Cast in the WiiM will allow the Spotify connect to be used.

The issue is described by Spotify support here and it is nothing to do with device names
