Hello. I love my Wiim ultra, and so far best solution I have found to control it is through Alexa and by setting it as a speaker, but sometimes Alexa defaults to Amazon Music, even though my settings are set to Spotify and sometimes it doesn’t play Spotify lossless. Frankly, I don’t care about the other features of a smart speaker. I just want to control my music. In my case anyway and I think in many others, it would be great to have a little very cheap smart speaker on top of the Wiim to be able to control it and access all it’s available services, like Tidal which Alexa doesn’t do, Spotify, of course, and even the radio. etc. I know the new expensive smart speaker might do that but it’s really overkill to buy that too, since I already have my set up. I just need to control the music.

What you're really asking WiiM to do is to develop their own local voice assistant. I understand Sonos have done that with Sonos Voice Control (although to what degree I'm unsure) but it's not something I've seen WiiM express an interest in.

I could be wrong, but doesn’t the remote control control by voice, so if that’s the case maybe it’s not so complicated just to do music controls for an assistant. Anyway, I can’t find my remote control to verify. Right now I’ve got everything set to default to Spotify and I still can’t get my Alexa to constantly and consistently give me songs from Spotify. It’s driving me crazy because it keeps defaulting to Amazon Music.

In the Alexa app settings --> Music & Podcasts screen, is 'Family default music service' set to Spotify?

If you have registered your voice with Alexa, you will also need to switch your account's default service to Spotify.

And yes, voice control can be used with the WiiM Remote. (But, we can't use voice commands to call up presets.)

The remote control is just like the microphone on an Echo device - it interfaces to Alexa in the cloud. Your voice request isn’t being interpreted by the remote control or your WiiM device, that’s all done by Alexa. While others have implemented voice control across a range of equipment, it’s not a trivial task.

Yes, thanks for info. But I had done that already for both my family and myself. But it’s a known issue. Lots of people have the same problem. You set it to Spotify but it just defaults to Amazon seemingly whenever it feels like it. it’s pretty bizarre actually and you can’t even take Amazon Music off as one of your services which I thought could solve the problem.

My Alexa has never encountered such an issue, so it might be a region-specific problem..🤔

My Echo always responds to my requests with "On Spotify~".

It seems I was mistaken..
If you set Spotify as the default in the Alexa app but it keeps switching to Amazon Music, it's possible your Spotify account isn't linked properly. Alternatively, it could be a bug in the Alexa app (or Echo).

Have you already tried these?
(Please perform all steps using the parent account.)

  1. Disable the Spotify skill in the Alexa app.
  2. Reinstall the Spotify app and Alexa app. (Any tracks downloaded via Spotify will be lost.)
  3. Open the 'Apps and Devices' section in the Spotify app settings and connect to Alexa. (This will enable the Spotify skill.)
  4. Set Spotify as the default music service in the Alexa app.
