I know, I know. It never should have been allowed to happen. Regular free updates that fix bugs or add features we didn’t have when we bought our devices, and one is two weeks late around Chinese New Year when staff typically take well deserved holidays. Heads should roll…

They why didn't they wait until the new year was over like other companies? It comes around every year not exactly a suprise...
As I said it looks terrible especially for new users..

Also I don't know why they don't get a few users to help alpha and beta testing. Wiim are very lucky there are a lot of users here that really know their onions, I can think of at least half a dozen users in 30 seconds that are more than up to the job....

We know from previous years that the announcements and updates came to a bit of a halt around the Chinese New Year.

Although maybe the better way to go forward is to save these feature announcements until after they've been tested in beta. And just do the announcement as the updates are stable and rolling out. I count myself as one of the many beta-testing candidates on these forums.

Maybe a separate, closed "beta" forum would be nice as well: less cluttered, direct communication with developers and keeping the technical chit-chat away from the general user base @RyanWithWiiM

Exactly this separate sub forum only seen by the chosen few... Like many here I've been around forums for decades and this is normal in most of them...
Btw I'm not putting my name forward 😂 some users here totally lose me with graphs and the like...

I don't think it's right to select unsuspecting guinea pigs to see if everything works as it should. They shouldn't be experimenting on my skin without my knowledge.
You might think that this is wrong. Others complained about not being member of that group. It's impossible to please everyone. ;)

Fact is, that this is the way software is rolled out "over the air". And it's not limited to Hi-Fi gear. 🤷‍♂️

Today they announced an update to the WiiM Home app that was released on 11th February 😂
Even more proof of the fact that you cannot please everyone. :)

We run public betas for software, releasing the software as an Opt-In for anyone who wants to. It's in the app under Join Beta Testing. Lots of people join in to help and we really appreciate it. But since it's easy to join, the discussions for this take place in public. We may one day have a secret software beta program, but we're pretty transparent about what software is coming.

What if there already were a secret beta forum that is used to discuss secret beta-y things? Because there is one, and we're working on expanding it. But that's for specific discussions around certain things we're testing out.

___

Also, yes the rollout was delayed as folks suggested in the thread already, due to the holidays some of the team was taking. Sorry for the trouble!

I'm on about closed beta testing pre-release not public testing which is useful for quick progress, but unreliable for many reasons, mainly opinions rather than facts and data..

As for a sub forum I'd have been amazed if it didn't exist, indeed it would be shoddy! Maybe now is the time to expand it? I'm sure you'd hit on a similar list as mine of uses capable of doing this.

Also for the holiday thing it doesn't wash as I said earlier it's not exactly a suprise is it as it happens every year. Almost twenty years ago I was getting development boards for testing etc
We knew with our Christmas (about a week) then soon after Chinese new year (six ish weeks) postage would be unreliable until almost the end of February round about now if memory serves me right..
Maybe more western input at final beta testing (different holidays etc) as well as your current team would cover all bases..
One point of failure is never a good thing...
Anyway thanks for the update and just to add everything I have said is not a criticism, just a user sharing my previous experiences on different projects over the years (none of it audio related I must add)

There are many things discussed on this forum I don't understand. The hoo-ha over an update that didn't happen (yet), meaning that exactly nothing changed, is one of them.
To me it could indicate issues in the internal software development and release processes. I recognize this pattern of uncoordinated information from software projects I have been involved in over the years.

I'll wade into this active thread since its on topic for what I've been playing with since buying a WiiM Ultra on Saturday...

I'm running the same beta firmware and not seeing these issues...
I own my Wii Ultra for quite a while now and have therefore used many different firmware. It seems that things got messed up during install of the last beta. Room Fit, GEQ, and PEQ stopped working altogether and reverted to "flat" after exiting. Only after several factory resets (the first attempts of which had no effect; everything remained unchanged) did the setup mode (holding the button for more than 3 seconds) finally work. Except for the HDMI ARC issue, everything worked again in the last beta. I then reverted to the "HDMI Arc Beta" and haven't had any problems since.

One more indication of issues in the current software development processes.

Not necessarily; even the smallest error during the update can cause something like that. And as I said, after the procedure, the latest beta ran as expected, which also included the behavior with the HDMI input that was annoying to me.
