Hey,

I've had a Wiim Pro for a year or so and bought a Wiim Ultra, Wiim Mini, two Wiim Sounds and a Wiim Sub Pro during the holiday sales. I'm generally very happy with everything and even talked a friend into a Wiim Amp Ultra, so I'm a fan.

I also purchased an SVS 3000 Micro to compare to the Wiim Sub Pro. I noticed the bass was not as tight as it should be when using the SVS. I ran some subwoofer frequency sweeps and found my mains (Zu Soul Supremes) were still being sent the full frequecy range, even with the crossover set to 110 Hz. The "Main Speakers Output Bass" setting is disabled.

I manually created a high pass filter in the Parametric EQ for the short term but I'm hoping there is a solution to the High Pass Filter not working when using a 3rd party sub.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks very much,

JJ

Nobody else has reported this so it isn't a general issue. Raise a ticket by sending feedback via the WiiM Home App

Hi,
I agree with @slartibartfast's suggestion.
Also If you haven't tried it yet, unplug your device's power cable, wait a moment, then plug it back in.

Also, how did you check?

After turning off the subwoofer's power, play a track containing deep bass. Then, change the crossover from 30Hz to 250Hz in the WiiM app's subwoofer settings screen. You should notice a difference immediately.

Thanks. I did unplug the sub and reboot the Ultra a few times during the process...

Steps taken:

Once I suspected the HPF was not working with the SVS connected, I lowered the subwoofer level in the Wiim app to -15 dB and to -60 dB in the SVS app. These are the minimum values available in each.
Keeping the subwoofer enabled in the Wiim app with a crossover of 80 Hz, I then played a bass heavy track I am very faniliar with and heard the Zu's generating a full range response as it had before I purchased the subs. So the Wiim was ending a full range signal to the Zus.

Testing:
I raised the crossover from 70 to 110 Hz.
Not sure why but my crossover options only range from 30 Hz to 110 Hz. I don't have the option to go higher than 110. Both my Wiim Ultra and Wiim Home app have the most current (non-beta) versions.

I then opened a youtube subwoofer frequency sweep (25-150 Hz).
I placed the back of my finger on the surround of the Zu's full range driver and started the sweep. As soon as the sweep started the Zu's FRD started to vibrate while the SVS generated the frequencies as expected. As the frequency increased I could hear/feel the bass coming from the Zu's.

For a control, I then performed the above steps with the Ultra's wired subwoofer output (SVS) disabled but with the wireless Wiim Sub Pro enabled.
Once I started the sweep, the Sub Pro began generating bass and the Zu's FRD stayed absolutely still till about 80Hz where it started up the slope to 110 Hz. So the HPF was working as expected when using the Wiim wireless output to the Sub Pro.

I then manually created a HPF for the SVS using the PEQ and received similar results as when using the Wiim Sub Pro, so the manual HPF worked but the "automatic" was not working with the 3rd party sub.

The "Main Speakers Output Bass" option was disabled for all the above.

Please let me know if I missed something. I do appreciate the help.

Thanks,

JJ

I don't have a Sub Pro myself, so I can't say for sure, but if you're using an SVS sub, I think you'll need to unlink the WiiM device from the Sub Pro. Doing that should allow you to adjust the crossover up to 250Hz and apply the high-pass filter as well.

An upper border of 110 Hz for the crossover frequency does suggest that the WiiM Sub Pro pairing is still active, indeed.

With the WiiM Ultra and any subwoofer connected to the physical sub out, 250 Hz should be the upper limit available. I don't recommend using this setting, but I do recommend using it for fault finding.

Wiimer,

You nailed it! I de-installed the Sub Pro, rebooted the app, SVS and my phone just to be sure. Now the HPF is working as it should. Thank you so much for the help!

It would have been nice to be able to toggle between the two for comparison but I can work with it as is.

Thanks to everybody who responded. It's nice to belong to such a helpful and active community.
