I wonder if wiim can come out with a product that is exactly the same like the Wiim Ultra, only with 5.1 outputs, instead of 2.1.
I know that today stereo listening is more trendy then home cinema, but I am sure that there is a market for people that are interested in killer stereo system that can also make decent surround experience. Wiim Ultra already have hdmi arc support, they just need a few more outputs.
I myself would love to get rid of my avr. High end avrs are extremely pricey, and usually their stereo sound isn't that good. They have way too many inputs and outputs that nobody use (who really care for 11.2 set up?). With a product like "Wiim Ultra Surround" you will be able to choose your own power amplifier and get much better sound, at much lower cost.

If you need such a device, buy a AVR

Also doing what you ask could break copy protection methods
I'm already running the AVM90 - and I'm not entirely satisfied.

E.g. Dolby is also supported as LPCM Outputs (via HDMI) on Apple TVs. I agree with your concern on copy protection, but "others" seem to support comparable outputs/formats.

@WiiM Team according to the roadmap, the beta was expected to start as at 15th. I didn't found a thread to that, can I apply for beta testing?

Not until they formally announce the availability of such a beta and issue invites.

As explained on the roadmap page: “While we are excited to share some tentative dates, please understand these are best estimates and not commitments due to the unpredictable nature of software development. Our team may need to allocate resources to fix existing bugs, which could affect timelines. Additionally, we might conduct extra beta tests to gather more feedback before a public release. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to improve our product. ”

A couple of days ago, I read the following in the roadmap for the ultra for the 15th of January 2025:

"Wireless Dolby 5.1 (Beta): Low-latency wireless Dolby 5.1 with surround channels. "

Maybe it´s the first step towards an AV-Pre/Pro
Can anyone explain what this is?

I’d guess maybe using a WiiM amp and sub for the front speakers grouped with a WiiM amp for the rears, although I accept the lack of a centre front speaker doesn’t meet the spec of a 5.1 system…

But until WiiM say more, it’s pure speculation

I've got a 9.3.4 system how many wiim pro plus's would I need?

Sorry but that idea sound absurd, if they want a AVR or av pre amp just release that product not grouping half a dozen to bodge it.

In all seriousness, if they could provide a means of driving a pair of rear speakers like I used to do with my Rocketfish wireless rear speaker kit fifteen years ago, I’m sure some would be interested.

I saw this on another thread.
It looks like we need one of Ultra, Amp Pro, or Amp for the rear as well.

"The remaining WiiM devices function as surround speakers. You can mix and match different WiiM devices—for example, two WiiM Ultra units or a combination of WiiM Ultra and another compatible WiiM device."

However, I think the WiiM Amp was non-Dolby compatible. I am not sure 🤔.

Kinda stupid to buy several wiims for a frankenstein AVR. LOL what a laugh.
The key advantage is the fully wireless setup, eliminating the clutter of wires typically associated with an AVR. Additionally, it allows you to configure multiple use cases, such as a home theater setup or music listening, all easily controlled via a remote or the app.

Hi,

Can Mini or A10 be used for rear or center?

Hi Wiimer, Team

The A10 and C10 WiiM Edition speakers can be used as rear or center speakers. To enable this, connect the Dolby audio source to a WiiM Ultra or WiiM Amp Pro, which supports this format. These devices will wirelessly transmit the audio to the rear or center speakers such as A10/C10 speakers. Alternatively, you can use a WiiM Amp or Pro Plus to connect the rear/center speakers.

Currently, the WiiM Mini cannot function as rear or center speakers.

Am I correct in this understanding?

The devices for front speakers are Dolby Audio compatible devices only.
  • Ultra
  • Amp pro

Rear and center speakers include some non-Dolby-compatible models.
  • Ultra
  • Amp Pro
  • Amp
  • Pro plus
  • Pro
  • A10/C10 WE speaker
(Mini is currently not supported.)

Hi Wiimer,

Thank you for listing the details. You are correct, except Pro can also work as rear/center speakers.

So I wasn’t far off…
