Unnecessary, yes. Incorrect is a bit harsh.
We need to individually set the sub level for each installation anyway. And in this case the splitter wasn't even I to the sub directly but I to the WiiM device driving the subs, just to make sure the mono signal is fed to both channels. Turned out to not be necessary.
