That's the whole point of this exercise--feeding the high-res, lossless digital signal out of the iDevice using optical S/PDIF (TosLink) to an external DAC, in this case the WiiM Ultra or whatever downstream DAC is in use.

There's no such thing as feeding analog signals over optical connection.

I am well aware of that but what you ended up doing wasn't entirely clear.
A USB->Optical into the Ultra should work like any other external DAC connected to an iDevice. Apple really do want to make it difficult though.

The Amazon music rate is showing 192 kHz for this connection.

I'm still not clear on where the confusion is. Would it help if I advised that I have a downstream display of output sample rate from the WiiM (since I use an external DAC and not the WiiM's DAC) and in my testing it always shows the sample rate matching that of the original song in Apple Music? Because it does. My WiiM Ultra is hooked up to a DSPeaker Anti-Mode X2D and the sample rate readout on it shows that the music is, in fact, coming out of the iPhone high-res since the WiiM is passing it through at original sample rate (the only DSP I use in the WiiM is volume/gain control--the Anti-Mode handles RC and subwoofer/bass management).

Apple Music (Lossless, High-res enabled) on iPhone -(USB-C)> USB-C to TosLink Adapter -(TosLink)> WiiM Ultra -(Coax S/PDIF)> DSPeaker Anti-Mode X2D -(Coax S/PDIF)> VibeLink

Yes but @Wiimer isn't and it was his post that I was responding to about the external DAC. I thought he was using an Apple iDevice but it seems not. If anyone is using an Android to try to play Apple Music at HiRes then I very much doubt it will work at the HiRes sought.

@Wiimer You need an Android device that bypasses system resampling, for example HiBy R4, MoonDrop MIAD-01, or FiiO JM21.

Even then are you sure that the Apple Music app isn't limited on Android?
I am positive. This is how I used to stream my music before I switched to Qobuz and got a WiiM; I used an xDuoo DT-01 dock with a HiBy R6 Pro II to play high-res bit-perfect Apple Music via USB to an external DAC.

I installed the Apple Music app on my Xiaomi 13T pro Android phone.

When I play it on Ultra from USB via Cubilix adapter, it seems to be playing at 192kHz.

I am not sure how accurate that is. That indicates that the source file/recording is 24-bit, 192KHz, but the only way to know for sure if it is output at that sample rate is to plug it into an external device/DAC that shows the sample rate it is receiving.

If you use the adapter, and send it to the WiiM's optical input, the WiiM will report the incoming sample rate.

On the Xiaomi pad 6 is 48kHz, but on the Xiaomi 13T pro is 192kHz. However, both are 16bit.

Interestingly, Apple Music does not have any volume issues with the subs, and the sound seems to be better. It also seems easier to use than Amazon music.
 
Since the thread is about Apple Music... has anyone noticed sample rate changes on tracks of an album that should all be Hi-res Lossless, where some drop down to CD quality? This happens often with classical albums. I raised the issue with Apple and they are looking into it, but so far no fix.

Yes, I just went through that a while ago.

The first track on the album is hi-res lossless, but if I skip to the next track, it is lossless. However, if I tapped the next track from the list, it remained hi-res.

I've seen this on both, Apple Music and Qobuz, where different tracks on the same album are not the same sample rate.
