Any way to stop auto switching to TV through HDMI ARC?

Hi.

Simple setup here:

Samsung TV with hdmi arc
Wiim ultra (tv through hdmi input, computer audio through line in)
Sugden power amp.

When I have audio playing and I turn the tv on, I want to stop the input auto switching to ‘TV’ when it senses the HDMI ARC signal.

Any simple way to do this?

Thanks.

Hi,

Please try turning off CEC in the audio input settings screen of the WiiM app.

This has been discussed in several other threads and although there were some updates lately to the issue, it does still not work correctly. Even the description of the HDMI CEC in the FAQ is wrong.

I have a outstanding ticket for @WiiM Support about this after I did a beta testing of this functionally. Unfortunately the @WiiM Team did not respond to the feedback and misunderstood what is needed.

Please raise a ticket and let us hope that they react and get it fixed.

Is that a problem that happens with certain TV models?

On my Ultra and Hisense TVs the CEC on/off seems to be working properly.

There may be differences between TV models. Mine is a Sony.

The issue is however not CEC power control directly.
When CEC power control is off, the TV should not change to external speakers but it does. No matter what state the WiiM is in.

A workaround is to select TV as input and then change it to another input. That causes my TV to change back to internal speakers.

This is my ticket text related to the FAQ about HDMI:

"The full behaviour when CEC is off is not described. E.g. change of input selection.

The behaviour when the TV is turned on and CEC is off is wrong. Currently the TV changes to external speakers (WiiM) even when the WiiM has not selected HDMI as input (auto or manually).

TV shall only charge to WiiM when CEC is on or if input is selected as TV."

I don't know if that has anything to do with the OP's problem. He doesn't mention TV speakers.

Nor does it happen on my TV. (We may have had this same conversation before...)

The OP say "HDMI ARC signal" so I assumed that it was the TV that switched to external speakers.

So you say that your TV stay on internal speakers when you turn it on, if CEC power control is off? And switch to external speakers and change the WiiM input to TV when CEC power control is on.

If so, that is interesting. Shows that the CEC protocol is not well defined.

Well, my TV can output TV speakers and external speakers at the same time. This may only be possible on some TVs.

If I turn off "External Speaker Link" in the HDMI settings, the auto switching will not take place.

I would recommend Hisense for your next TV 😂

Ok. That explains it. It should however work also for other TVs. My Sony Bravia is a very common TV and it only have the option to manually change the speakers.
With connection to WiiM it always switches to external speakers and I have to manually change it back.

I know it's possible to fix this, as it was (almost) working in the Beta test I did for WiiM. It was just not implemented in the "final" version.

For now I just plug in the HDMI cable only when needed.

This is mainly why I use the optical output on my TV to connect to my Ultra, and also because the HDMI ARC port on my TV is already in use for another device.

Connecting my TV to my ultra via HDMI ARC wouldn’t give me any extra benefit or functionality that would be of interest to me.

Good for you. All my inputs are already in use, so not an option. It should just be fixed by WiiM, I know it's possible.

Hello I also have a pb with my ultra and my sony AF8 tv that connected to hdmi arc always automatically switches to the ultra by cutting the sound of the tv which I don't want yet I cut all input detections on the ultra I can't find a solution.

There is no solution until @WiiM Team fix it. Only workarounds as discussed here and in other threads.
