Are audio reviewers making stuff up?

Thought he was Australian with homes in Berlin and Lisbon? Might be a nationalised UK citizen admittedly…
not so much a question, more an oberservation. Surely Darko is no more bias than people in forums seeking validation echoes for their choices and views or posting poorly researched answers to peoples questions.
In fact he has a reputation to uphold, so if his views and reviews were poorly judged or only based on commercial interest im pretty sure he would not be as succesful as he obviously is, maybe there is a little jealousy at play
.The level of useful information you can find via youtube and forums from accross the world is informative and empowering, but of course like has always been the way since the dawn of civilisation, spotting the 'BS' is part of the game.

It's fine if a design designates the power supply to be an external unit. Not my favorite but legitimate.just to play 'devils advocate' wouldnt a separate power supply be easier to replace if needed and mean more space and less heat in the main unit ..
My point is about devices with built-in power supplies, which some "high-end" manufacturers offer "upgrades" for in the form of an extra unit. E.g. Naim.
If I were to review such equipment, it would fail the test the minute I saw that extra unit. It either means that the equipment is faulty by design in the first place or that someone is trying to bullshxt his customers.

He was brought up in the UK before relocating to Australia and then Germany where he is now based, although he also has a home in Lisbon... but other than that he keeps details of his personal life under wraps.

Note that this isn't really true. Livelihood of audio reviewers depends on creating content people want to consume.
The fact that reviewers may report to hear differences where there may be none doesn't necessarily mean they are actively trying to fool anyone or intentionally make stuff up. They are human and so subject to the same biases as the rest of us - regardless if we are aware of these biases or not.
But that means that we shouldn't put too much faith in *anyone's* opinion if it isn't backed by robust data.
By data I don't mean just measurements - listening tests can produce very hard data too, as long as they are done in a sufficiently rigorous way - i.e. accurately level-matched, without knowing which device we're listening to, and repeated enough times to reach statistical significance.

It's like movie reviews, music, theatre reviews, etc. It is one person's thinking and opinion.
As far as A/B vs D, A/B is still preferable IMO. More beef in the stew. Assuming amps are with speakers that can show that. Remember, he usually uses the best — whatever, he has in for review. Almost always, it is top of the line or at least mid model of the top of the line brands. So great speakers will really show the difference between components. If you have middling speakers, it might not matter A/B or D. I made the opposite mistake decades ago. The stereo store guy said X brand amp would work with my Magnepans. Well, it did but it was not really ideal at all. Now I know. Magnepans need not watts per-say but the amp version of BEEF which costs some $$$€€€. I only had chicken scratch at the time. My amp died a decade sooner then it should have. It was more like a turkey sandwich. But that salesman got his spiff.
(Spiff is slang for an immediate bonus for a sale. Typically, spiffs are paid, either by a manufacturer or employer, directly to a salesperson for selling a specific product. Be it best for the shopper or NOT. Usually not.)
