Ongoing Beta Beta Test: Plex

I've been saying this for ages and use it everyday..
It's gotten a lot better from the beginning (with the addition of jumplists etc). I was and am a big fan of Plexamp, but I find the Plex integration in wiim home app now good enough that I don't bother with Plexamp anymore.

Cosign the two above posts. I also get a lot of milage out of the random sort order for albums

The biggest thing I miss from plexamp is the track radio function. I'd hoped for a workaround using playlists, but I couldn't figure out a way to save the radio playlists as standard plexamp playlists readable by wiim

The Plex search can't handle spaces for me, but the WHA native search picks up my Plex library

It's also the customization and interface in Plexamp that people want. You can create just about the perfect player for your needs. That's not possible from within the WiiM Home app. I appreciate the work and time that has been put into this, but people that use a Plex server and Plexamp usually do so because of the features that Plex(amp) offers, and using the WiiM Home app as a limited workaround is just a deal breaker for me.

Everything seems to take more taps than in Plexamp. Switching libraries, opening Plex,… And despite what others people say, the search function doesn’t really work for me. It’s always missing something and coming up with very random suggestions. I’d assume that it would be easier to go the endpoint route and leave the design aspects to Plex. Trying to fit everything into WHA for all sorts of different platforms seems like an overload of work to me. But I’m not a software developer.

I don't miss customisation always left it as stock, don't care what it looks like as long as it works.. I think time is better spent elsewhere.

I’m new to the forum, and I apologize in advance if my question has been asked many times before. My WiiM Ultra is not on the same network as my Plex server, so I can’t access my music library the way I can with PlexAmp. Is there a workaround, or is full Plex server support something that’s on the way?

It may or may not happen. Right now I would not be too optimistic.

I'm afraid not... it's one of the main reasons why the current implementation was flawed from the beginning.
There probably is.... VPN tunnel or similar, I have one setup on my router and wireguard client on my phone, can access anything at home is if I'm on the LAN...

Ok theoretically, yes, but have you actually got this to work with your WiiM devices then? Not really a solution I suppose, unless WiiM will support logging in to every different VPN/tunneling service :')

I'm also running Tailscale on my NAS, but just like Wireguard, it requires a client application to be running on the client side. The beauty of Plex is that their apps/web interface take care of remote access by a simple login.

I'll check now by turning off WiFi...
Yup I can use the Wiim ultra fine, notice WiFi off 4g on and wireguard is circuled....

Edit... Was playing from my Plex server too..

Is there a workaround
If you don't have a router tha supports VPN connections I'd have a look at installing wireguard (openvpn would probably be fine too)on your Plex server box.. My Wiim app + Plex + wireguard works fine here on mobile network..

I have a home system with 5 pro plus, 3 WiiM amps and 1 ultra.
I have no problems accessing my Plex server with all of these units using my PC or Android phone. The problem is with an IPad, it does not see Artists, Albums or Tracks BUT I can access everything if I chose Folders. When I choose Playlist I can see the artwork but the content is empty.
All firmware/software is updated all electronics are on the same network.
Any idea on how to get content to show up for Artists and Albums on the iPad?

In the WiiM Home App, when assigning a Plex playlist to a button on the WiiM Remote 2, I noticed that while I have shuffle already enabled for the playlist in the app, it does not actually shuffle when starting the playlist from the remote. It only shuffles when starting the playlist from the app. It would be nice (understated) to be able to assign an 'always shuffle' status to a playlist. Without it, there is no reason for me to start a playlist from the remote if it always plays in the same order.

EDIT: found that you can enable shuffle in the preset section (three dots next to the assigned preset)!

Also, the 'All Music' playlist does not work in the WiiM Home App. Probably has something to do with a lot of songs (60k+), but is this something that is going to work anytime soon?

Ok, so I ran into the issue that the playlists are copied to the WiiM, but only partially (500 tracks) so this feature is kind of useless for larger playlists/collections. Time for Plex Endpoint support guys.

Please @RyanWithWiiM @WiiM Team could you enlighten us with the smallest update please?

The current implementation seems broken in so many ways:
- no remote access (one of the main features of the whole Plex ecosystem of apps)
- playlists not fully showing (capped at 500 tracks)
- certain albums not playing (I've raised a ticket for this myself, but so far no solution)
- ...

I hadn’t looked at the Plex integration for a while, and a comment a few posts back about “random sort for albums” piqued my interest, since that is something I’ve been harping about here and elsewhere for years.

Alas, unless I’m missing something, I still can’t do what I’d like to do.

My objective is to be able to play a set of albums, perhaps selected by genre or artist, and have those albums play in a random order.

The random album radio function that I see doesn’t cut it, because that plays albums from the entire library.

I would like to be able to select by genre and then play random album radio from there. Or perhaps, select an artist, and then play random album radio for that artist.

Also, why is Genre missing from the main page? There’s Artist and Album…there should be Genre, too.

So I will keep hoping.

Another response from support. Looks like more of the same to me.

That might be nice, but Plexamp still can’t do a proper random album shuffle (by genre or artist) as I described above. But at least it has Genre as a selection option.
