Ongoing Beta Beta Test: Qobuz Connect

The Qobuz beta iOS app does not seem to connect to Ultra using Google cast. Tried it several times.

Not crucial, I guess, in the context of QConnect, but it should work.

Who owns this problem,Qobuz or @WiiM Team ?

Odd I helped my buddy setup his Ultra and it's working fine. I only cannot get it to work on my androids. Works great on PC and iPad

Qobuz Connect works fine. I am referring to Chromecast from the beta app.

A simple question: given the "good" level of reliability... why don't they just release NOW an official version of QC (maybe function limited? which can still be added in the near future)?? What are the risks (qobuz or wiim side)? 🤷

we can only speculate..them being worried of releasing a half-assed product being the major reason I'd say.. especially since it took them over 18 months (very rough ballpark number) to even open a private beta after QC was announced during an interview with that head bloke i can't remember the name of so (David something) long ago where he confirmed WiiM as the first partner/vendor

That's surely a good point...but a features limited working version is probably better than nothing and they could finally deliver something to a large audience

that might actually be a/the problem? maybe they don't have the server capacity to serve a large part of their userbase as it stands..in the end we can only speculate.. here's hoping they look at the current state and say.. let's open it up to the public..there's always gonna be corner cases which won't get tested and we'll deal with those when we getting reports on them

I really hope that's NOT the case otherwise i think it will remain just a mirage for a loooong time (sigh 😔)

Think you're mixing up your Qobuz Davids ;) David Solomon was the one who said on a video along with WiiM that he hoped WiiM would be the first Qobuz Connect partner - I think he's VP of business development in the USA. I guess more important and even more of a 'head bloke' is David Craff who is Qobuz's "Product manager: Player Audio & Partner Integration" who I understand actually leads the development and to whom I've seen David Solomon defer to on occasions. No matter what business development might hope for, it'll be the Product Manager I'd guess who would have the final say on whether Qobuz Connect is market ready.

I suspect if they release a "half-assed" version the manufacturers get upset because they will have a support hassle even if that is just redirecting users to Qobuz. That said I think it is far from half-assed now works like a charm on Marantz and WiiM for me.

From feedback on the Qobuz Club QC beta forum, it's clear that more manufacturers are jumping on board to support it on their streaming platforms. I imagine Qobuz (and they) want it to be adequately tested and proven solid on all the platforms before it's released to the general customer base.

And as @celeste pointed out, it's possible they need to do further work on the cloud end, especially if they expect an influx of customers. However, they've supported Google Cast -- a roughly similar solution -- and API support for WiiM, Roon, et al for years with their current customer base, so it may not require very much if any heavy lifting.

This beta on iOS does not seem to support Google Cast. Not for me.

Not that I need it with Connect working. To be noted that I reported previously that the standard (non-Connect) Qobuz iOS app did not work well with 1.68xxx. It transcoded everything to CD quality.

New Android beta app just dropped!

qconnect-beta08

Nothing specific listed in the release notes, so fair to assume it's a collection of bugfixes and/or performance improvements, possibly related to the new non-WiiM endpoints being tested.
