Browsing and organizing USB media library is very tedious

Were you not aware that you could do that?
Just in case you missed my post

Were people unaware that you could search by genre? Because that's not just tracks with 'Christmas' in the album or song title'.

Or unaware that you can have a track with multiple genres (say, both 'Rock 'n' Roll' and 'Christmas'?

But whilst I can do that, I don’t have to. Because my Christmas music, well it’s in the Christmas folder.

I suppose it could be concluded that Folder View might work well with the WiiM Home app if that is used to navigate music from a plugged in USB disk. Is that what we are talking about?

That search only works because you have genre tags though.

The example given was to find all Christmas songs, but I don't think he meant just those with Christmas in the album or song title.
yup I can search genre for christmas also. I can also random mix or play all christmas songs easily.

Can't do that with folder search. If folder search is finding tracks in seconds then it must index the files and create a database thus it's not true folder search, it's pseudo folder.

Literally the only method of folder search working is creating multiple copies of every search branch you use, which would be absurd.

For a starter, yes.

But I only listen to my music in 5 ways. On the WiiM, on my portable DAP (I don't really use that anymore), on my phone (Amazon Music), on my PC or on my Sonos.

The PC, WiiM, DAP and Sonos I use Folder View. The phone I just use the Amazon Music app and stream, so its not particularly relevant.

I know he'll ask, "but what about the Christmas tracks released on non-compilation albums"?

Ah! You mean maybe something like an Elvis Christmas track on an Elvis compilation where the song doesn't contain the word Christmas?

How would that show up as Christmas for anyone?

Look at the pics above where I searched for Christmas by genre. You keep telling me I can't do it, and yet I've posted pics of how I do it.

I didn't create multiple branches of anything. I clicked the search icon any typed i wat I was looking for.

Why do you keep saying it's impossible when I've posted pics demonstrating how easy it is?

From the Genre tag I suppose if you bother to add "Christmas" to it. I didn't bother tagging Fairytale of New York like that though since it also appears on a Christmas compilation album.

Exactly. Put another way, largely a non-issue.

If I had an Elvis Christmas album, I suppose I'd put one copy in the Elvis folder, and a second in the Christmas folder.

Right, I'm going to get some people foaming at the mouth in a minute, there's one folder you've not seen.

Those who are ‘no duplicates’ purists and of a nervous disposition, look away now.

Down at the bottom, below Various Artists.

So you know that most of your music you don’t listen to that often. But some albums and playlists you listen to regularly. And it’s nice to have all those together, rather than wading through everything else.

Inside the Very Best folder:

So you’ll find Dark Side of the Moon and The Seldom Seen Kid in the album folder.

You’ll see ABBA’s Greatest Hits, Best of Bob Dylan, etc. in the compilations folder, and my favourite genre playlists (re-created into ‘albums’) in the third folder.

All of these appear elsewhere. Dark Side of the Moon is in the Pink Floyd folder. Best of Bob Dylan is in the Bob Dylan folder. My Rock ‘n’ Roll playlist is in the various artists folder, along with Best of Motown, Disco, etc., etc.

Two great things about this folder.

1 - I didn't have to do it, and I don't have to use it, but I find it nice to have. If I'm ever at a loose end, and just want to listen to a great album and need some inspiration, it's a very useful thing to have them all together. Quite often this'll happen: I sit down and think "Right, I'm going to put a cracking album on!" And I think "Hounds of Love, Pet Sounds...erm...Hounds of Love, no hold on, I've said that...erm...erm..." and my brain stops functioning. I know I have hundreds of great LPs, but suddenly I can only think of three. Well, this is just a way to break the logjam.

2 - Of all the folders, rips, etc., this was by far away the easiest, and least time-consuming. Literally just the Very Best -> Albums folder open in a window on the right side of my screen, and the A-Z folders in a window on the left. Click through the artist folders, and anything that hits me as a classic, copy and paste.

It is a bit...decadent? Yes, it is a bit, I suppose. But as I say, it's quick, easy, useful, you don't have to use it, and the only downside is that SHOCK HORROR, it means Dark Side of the Moon is on there twice.
