Change power cord to the Ultra

I would very much like it to make a difference, because it would be a really simple upgrade.

But it really makes no sense... I mean have you thought about all the wiring in your house leading up to your power outlet?
That's kilometers of the cheapest copper wire you can imagine with no shielding but a bit of plastic/rubber, sharing space with multiple other wires, sometimes even for network and for different voltages etc.
Then you put a ca 1m power cable that is somehow shielded or in some other way better, and that 1m will make everything else better?

I wish it coulde be, and I own a few "SUPRA LoRad SPC" power cables, arguably not the fanciest of power cables, but they made no difference whatsoever.
And yes I can hear small changes in my setup from other stuff, like changing streamers, switching from SPDIF to TOSLINK and difference in player software.

How can that be?
I see no logic in these claims about power cables. I am still waiting to see a good explanation and not just feelings.
What have feelings got to do with what you can and can't hear?

If you use a budget amp and speakers say £150 each, are they going to sound as revealing as a £1000 or £2000 amp and speakers?

From my own experience as I've upgraded my equipment over the years the answer is no, my first budget system does not sound as revealing as the system I own now. Otherwise what's the point of upgrading?

And with that, there would be no point spending any money on better power cords when you wouldn't be able to hear the difference in a budget system. Doesn't mean you can't with a more expensive system though.

Your explanation here is all about feelings.
I understand that if it is more expensive it must be better and most of the time it is.
For power cables that is however never true.

Ok, we can agree to disagree, you heard no difference when trying a different power cable for the wiim and for me, I did hear a difference.

If I turn up the volume of the WiiM amp to maximum with nothing playing I don't hear anything with my ear against the speaker.

Yeah, the sound of a retailer chuckling? ;)

Seriously, if people believe there’s a difference, fine. Just don’t expect others to find that too, irrespective of how “revealing” their system is,
No one expects you to hear a difference though.

The thread was started for those who are interested in the subject.
Yet every thread on the subject is taken over by a bunch of people who like to tell people what they can and can't hear. 😂

You can be interested without hearing a difference. If you hear silence at full volume with nothing playing how will the improved noise floor be audible?

I think it would be safer and more fun to PM with only like-minded friends. 😁

You didn't answer the question.
But I thought we already established that it's system dependant and you can't always hear a difference.

Having said that, why don't you try and find out? It only cost the return postage to try a cable these days. So nothing lost really.

Have you tried listening with headphones from the DAC? I wonder if that would be more revealing.

All a better power cable does is lower the noise floor. So it just sounds darker, or more clean.

I noticed a change straight away when changing the wiim power cable and also putting a ferret core on the TV power cable produced a cleaner picture.
No I haven’t used headphones but I will give that a try. I also didn’t do any comparative listening tests with the upgraded power cable. I may try that too when I have some time over holiday break.
