clipping noise between tracks when playing dsf files from Plex server

When playing .dsf files from my plex server, there is a clipping noise between the end of one and beginning of the other track. I use the line out with fixed volume.
Could the PCM conversion of the dsd codec be the fault or maybe a setting?

You could try the Fade in & out toggle in Audio Settings, or maybe sample rate switch latency in Audio Output.
 
This is an old problem with a couple of different causes. You can do some searching and you will find quite a bit written about this problem. Unfortunately, there is no one simply fix.

SACD_Extract has been used for a long time to extract dsd files from an iso file. At one point there was a bug in it that often caused this problem. There are newer forks of the software that help eliminate the click.

Some software/DAC combinations mute between tracks in such a way as to silence the click if it is there. That really depends on the specific software and DAC. It is something Wiim might want to look into.

You might want to download some of the free dsf files that are available and see if you still have the problem. If so, it seems like it might be a Wiim issue, although it is hard to know.

You might also try a different DAC if you can, although that is usually more of an issue with directly playing DSD files than when they are converted to PCM.

I noticed when trying different line out levels the clipping noise is more quiet but I have to crank my amp up way too much.
I also tried fade in and out on/off an also coax with different latency switch options. Maybe WiiM needs to look into that but I don't know if dsd support or bypass is on their roadmap.

If you felt inclined you could try Lyrion Music Server. It can play dsf files to WiiM devices click free.

I did setup a Lyron Music Server and installed the dsd Plugin but I still have a click between songs. I guess it's the fault of the files then?
 
What is the source of the files? Did they get created using SACD_Extract. If so, the click may be in the files and hard to get rid of.

Did you try one of the free downloads to confirm if the problem is only with your files?

I ripped the dsf .iso files via SACD_Extract.

Here is one download that is reliable.

I tried it with the free demo file and there is no pop noise. So the problem are the files then.
I guess I'll have to set the crossfade in the LMS settings to 1 second to not have a sound. That's the workaround for now.

The is a free program called Deffy that does various conversions of dsf and dff files. One of the options is to "Fix plops or clicks at the end of playback of DSF files (if caused by one of the correctable issues)". You might try that on one of your files. There is also an option to remove gaps which may help remove the click section at the end of the file. If I remember correctly, the click is not an actual click in the data but a malformed block that gets turned into a click on playback.

As the program notes say - there is no guarantee. But it might be worth experimenting with.

If you try Deffy, do it on a copy of your file in a different folder, just to be sure.
 
You might want to read under his Inside tab. It talks about some reasons those clicks are there - like the bad block lengths as I said. If his tool does not fix the click problem, he suggests converting to dff and then back to dsf to fix the problem. You might loose some tags in doing that, but, again, worth a try if necessary.
