Feedback Needed! WiiM Ultra Screen Enhancements

What functionality would you like to see added to the Ultra display?

  • Send audio to another room

  • Control grouping with other WiiM devices

  • Check what's playing in other rooms

  • Control what's playing in other rooms

  • Set Up Timers and Alarms

  • Display lyrics of what's playing

  • Easy multiroom volume control

  • Spectrum Analyser

  • Text only display with larger text

A screen like the one on the Topping D70 Pro Sabre. It shouldn't be difficult to do and from my listening position (4.5 meters) I can see it perfectly.SCREEN.jpg

Perhaps investing more energy in devellopements on all the Wiim machines , more than just using the small screen of the Ultra, would be more interesting, it seems to me, no?

Yes, sure but this thread is about the Ultra screen.

Hi everyone! We're looking to make improvements to the functionality of the Ultra screen and add some uses for it and we want to know what you think! What if we changed up the current layout of icons on the scree widgets such as Current EQ, Presets, Recently Played, Radio, etc to also be able to do more things that you might otherwise go to the app for.

I'll include some ideas into a poll here, feel free to comment if there's more you'd want to add. Let's keep this to software, we're not talking about a new Ultra here :)
How many % of your users do you think prefer using the Ultra screen over the app? I think very few.

So very low priority investment of resources in my opinion and as mentioned before by others here would suggest to get done what is requested (or even promised) here on the forum for months...

I think that the touch screen functionality is not that much used. Still nice to have thought 🤔.

I do use the screen display to see what is playing when playing radios and play lists. So there it would be nice to have it also readable without having to sit just beside it.

Agree but imo the point of this post/request from WiiM point of view is to focus collecting requirements on bringing "user actions" to the Ultra screen that are already in the app. Maybe I'm misreading Ryan's post however?

Agree completely that the visual/display aspect of the screen itself (which I would say is used by a much higher % of users that selects this product) has massive improvement needs/possibilities. That however is a different topic/set of features compared to operating from the screen instead of the app.

As 5 out of the 7 choices on the poll seem to involve multi room or multi device setups, I began to wonder how many people have this type of setup. My hifi is in the lounge under my TV so there ain't much choice in this poll for me and I suspect for quite a few folk. Showing lyrics on the screen would require some mighty powerful spectacles for me to read them from my listening position so that's why I suggested a spectrum analyser, nice and easy to see from a distance and I would have thought it wouldn't be that difficult for the software developers to achieve? Or maybe it would and that's why it hasn't been done yet?

@RyanWithWiiM I would like to throw my hat in this ring as someone who would like to see some of this extra functionality added, particularly options to group and control other WiiM devices from the Ultra screen.

I have an Ultra connected to a turntable and CD player in a central room of my house, and 5 other WiiM devices across three floors. The ability to easily use the Ultra as a central control station for audio throughout my home is something I envisioned when I got all these units, and having to pull out the app any time I want to group devices is a big drawback, especially when it comes to guests and others in my home easily controlling the system in this way.

Maybe this use case is uncommon, but it may be more prevalent than what the other comments in this thread would suggest given multiroom audio is a key function of these devices in all their marketing materials. Extra functionality for the Ultra screen (above and beyond UI and visual optimizations that others have mentioned), like the ability to group and control other WiiMs, would certainly bolster its position as the flagship WiiM Streamer.
