HDMI Arc not working on LG OLED 65B46LA

I'm having very similar issues with two TCL TVs and it's driving me nuts. I've largely been suspecting the HDMI extenders (with ARC) I've been using to get signal to the WIIM amps in my AV closet, but it's crossed my mind a couple times that it might be the TVs. This thread further confirms the suspicions about the TVs. Not sure exactly what to try next.

I tried toggling off and on the Auto-sensing of Optical In & HDMI (mentioned in Post #9) and that seemed to work. Will have to try it a few more times to see if that is a consistent work-around.

Another odd behavior I'm seeing in my situation - There is often a very long delay between when I try to change the volume using the TV remote and when it registers on the WIIM amp and ultimately comes through the speakers. When I say long, I mean like 20-30 seconds. I can instantaneously adjust the volume using the app. Just more gremlins with the ARC functionality...

Have you already tried disconnecting the HDMI extender and connecting the TV directly to the WiiM?

In your case, the ARC on the extender may not be functioning properly.

Any updates to this issue? I have tried all the suggestion above but still can not get audio using HDMI ARC on my LG B4. Optical works but unable to control volume.

You could use the WiiM Remote Control to control the volume, it works perfectly well for me.

Please turn off eARC on the TV and switch the digital audio output to PCM.

Did that but no luck using LG own WebOS and on my PS5.
Have you already tried the HDMI cable included with the WiiM? Also, there is currently no sound coming out of the TV speakers, correct?

Please try unplugging the power cables from the TV and WiiM, then plugging the HDMI cable back in and turning it back on after at least 10 minutes.

If this does not resolve the issue, please submit a ticket through the feedback section of the WiiM app. A device log will be sent to you.

(Sorry if you have tried everything.)

I have had increasing problems with my LG TV (UM7500PLA) and Ultra lately. For months I could usually get it to kick into working by switching to optical and back to hdmi, or rebooting everything as a last resort. None of that makes a difference now, and the audio isn't working every single time I start my TV.

I have followed all tips in this forum post and elsewhere and nothing helps currently, except unplugging arc from TV, plugging an audio input to that port, and switching back to the Ultra. This seems to help. But doing it every time I want sound is too much work.

The only other way I can get it to work consistently - which is a little weird - is to load up my Steam Deck and get it to make a sound. For some reason this boots my LG TV into triggering the Ultra, and the sound usually comes on for everything. There must be some way that the Steam Deck formats its audio output that helps, but I can't figure out what.

I have a Nvidia Shield, a Nintendo Switch, and a Virgin Media TV box, all connected over hdmi to the LG TV also, and none of these kick the sound on the Ultra.

It's all starting to get extremely frustrating. And I would say that the more updates the Ultra has got, the worst this LG problem has become.

What settings are on in the Ultra for the HDMI input? What is the TV settings for the ARC (external speakers).

What happens when you just change inputs on the Ultra?

I am using HDMI ARC on a Sony TV and it will automatically change it output to external speakers when HDMI is active on the Ultra. Maybe your TV don't do that? The Ultra firmware has been changed in how it works on the HDMI CEC communication lately, so maybe that is what you see?

Optical works fine no issues. But with HDMI into my processor it disables itself.

You also have to enable HDMI CEC.

That's why I dislike HDMI, with all this "locking on" feature where it detects device is switched off or changed inputs, it changes output to off..

stupid hdmi

Was that a help to @therourke ?

There’s now a “Automatically output audio to WiiM when tv is on” toggle under audio input in the WiiM home app - might that have an impact?

I think that is just a renamed "HDMI CEC Power Control" option. The new definition is however confusing I think. It's not working as expected. If it is off, the TV still changes to external speakers when turned on, while the Ultra stay in standby.

yeah pain in the backside, stupid hdmi .

I noticed my LG OLED was disabling HDMI ARC output, if the processor was off.

Needs to have "always use HDMI ARC"

The issue is that HDMI CEC is badly defined and some TV manufactures handles it more intelligent than others.

Also with HDMI you get sound drop out, for example with kodi box into my processor (which then goes into the TV) ..TV, processor and kodi box on, playing either video file or flac audio. Switch TV off...there is interruption for couple of seconds.

You don't get that with optical or coaxial, as the source or processor doesn't know or care you are switching on or off the TV. Nor does it change or switch on or off that digital output.

Check if the TV’s audio settings are set to pass through the audio to external speakers via ARC.

Same here. No sound from my LG 55B4 HDMI ARC with Wiim ultra. I've tried every settings. So frustrating.
