HDMI Arc not working on LG OLED 65B46LA

I have had increasing problems with my LG TV (UM7500PLA) and Ultra lately. For months I could usually get it to kick into working by switching to optical and back to hdmi, or rebooting everything as a last resort. None of that makes a difference now, and the audio isn't working every single time I start my TV.

I have followed all tips in this forum post and elsewhere and nothing helps currently, except unplugging arc from TV, plugging an audio input to that port, and switching back to the Ultra. This seems to help. But doing it every time I want sound is too much work.

The only other way I can get it to work consistently - which is a little weird - is to load up my Steam Deck and get it to make a sound. For some reason this boots my LG TV into triggering the Ultra, and the sound usually comes on for everything. There must be some way that the Steam Deck formats its audio output that helps, but I can't figure out what.

I have a Nvidia Shield, a Nintendo Switch, and a Virgin Media TV box, all connected over hdmi to the LG TV also, and none of these kick the sound on the Ultra.

It's all starting to get extremely frustrating. And I would say that the more updates the Ultra has got, the worst this LG problem has become.

I've had similar issues with my LG B4 (2017) and the Wiim Ultra recently. I reported it and support found no problems.

In my case, my Nvidia Shield Pro was able to trigger the Ultra into life. It has HDMI CEC power control and Match content audio resolution enabled.

I've managed to resolve my issues as follows:

Wiim Ultra settings:
Auto sensing HDMI and Optical ARC: ON
Reduce noise: OFF
Automatically output audio when TV is on: ON

LG TV settings:
Simplink HDMI-CEC
General (device control): ON
Auto power sync: OFF

Also ensure that HDMI deep colour is disabled for the HDMI ARC port.

Note that the LG TV HDMI CEC power control/power sync setting is the one that was causing the issues for me, so ensure that is off on your LG TV.

I have followed all the advice above, and the problem still remains.

The Ultra has always had some issues with my LG TV since I first bought it at launch. But with the updates that have come, my sense is that the issue has got worse, not better. I have no sound every time I turn on my TV now. The only way I can consistently get it to work is to turn on my Steam Deck, which is tedious. My Nvidia Shield, Virgin Media TV box, and a bunch of other HDMI game consoles have no effect on the sound.

It's extremely annoying. I am thinking about returning to optical output/input, since that at least works without hassle. But losing CEC control is a sad trade off, and it reduces the number of reasons to even have an Ultra in the first place.

I'm having the exact same problem with LG OLED C9. HDMI ARC used to work better but lately the TV has been booting up with no sound more often. TV remote can still control the Wiim Amp volume even though the speakers are silent and rebooting Wiim Amp restores the sound. I'm using HDMI cable supplied with Wiim Amp and I have tried connecting the cable to PS4 to reset the TV HDMI port but this didn't seem to help. Strangest thing is that the sound works sometimes when turning on the TV and the behavior is totally random.
