Hello good people.

When using the Wiim iOS app to stream FLAC from my external hard drive it’s been skipping randomly to the next track. I’ve been trying to pay attention to anything going on on my phone or whatever to see if there’s something that’s triggering it, but it seems very random. I only occasionally use it to stream so can’t be sure if it started doing this after an app update

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Hello. I have had this problem and have traced it to files having very long names due to the tracks having long, descriptive titles. In order to make the affected files play without any skipping I have been manually shortening the track names after downloading and prior to copying the files into my Music Folder (which I keep on a separate, USB-connected external hard drive for capacity reasons). Generally I don't have to shorten them all that much; it solves the problem, but it is a royal pain to have to do this. There seems to be some kind of limit on the length of a file name in order for the system to handle and recognize it. I have started a ticket about this to see what can be done about it; however, it is interesting to note that when trying to delete a downloaded file or album containing unshortened files with these long names after copying it to my Music Folder (and a backup USB drive), I receive a message saying the file is too long to move to my Recycle Bin, and asking me if I want to bypass this step and delete it directly. This happens only with the albums having long files that have to be shortened to play properly. From this, I suspect the problem has to do with Windows (I have Windows 11) and/or Windows Media Sharing, and not with the WiiM app or devices. I am waiting for an answer from WiiM.
Can you give an example of a long file name?

I just sent an email but thought it was a response to my ticket on the WiiM help center, so I apologize if it does not start out appropriately. I am aware of the track-order feature and the skipping of files has nothing to do with that, it happens only when there are tracks with long names. I don't know MinimServer and really don't want the complications of another server on my desktop, but thanks for the info and maybe I will try it if shortening the names becomes burdensome. It happens very rarely so I may just deal with it. But as I mentioned above, it does seem coincidental that the same files won't go to the Recycle Bin, they must be deleted directly; so if it continues to be an issue I may even contact Microsoft and see if it is a problem with the operating system.

An example of a long file name:

(Pulcinella, ballet with song in one act, K034) - Pulcinella, ballet with song in one act, K034:X. Trio. Andante. Sento dire no' nce' pace' - Allegro. Chi dise c la femmena

When I removed "(Pulcinella, ballet with song in one act, K034)" from the beginning of the name, the file was shortened enough to allow it to stream.

From Internet search: "Microsoft Windows has a MAX_PATH limit of ~256 characters. If the length of the path and filename combined exceed ~256 characters you will be able to see the path/files via Windows/File Explorer, but may not be able to delete/move/rename these paths/files."
