Home Music Share keeps skipping to next track

Hello good people.

When using the Wiim iOS app to stream FLAC from my external hard drive it’s been skipping randomly to the next track. I’ve been trying to pay attention to anything going on on my phone or whatever to see if there’s something that’s triggering it, but it seems very random. I only occasionally use it to stream so can’t be sure if it started doing this after an app update

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Have you ever been able to play one of the tracks that has skipped?
There were some enhancements specifically for Windows Media Sharing in the latest release so it's possible this has caused the issue. I don't have a Windows 11 install but I'll have a quick look at Windows 10 later.

MinimServer is the preferred UPnP server so you could try that. The free version will likely meet your needs.

@Xidnpnlss

I split a track into 5 second chunks so I could quickly test a number of track transitions and it played through successfuly, so unfortunately I can't replicate your problem.

Carrying out this test did remind me just how broken Windows Media Sharing (WMS) is. In DLNA/UPnP the server is responsible for sending the tracks to the control point (WiiM Home App) in the correct order, but WMS sends them in alphabetical order, and unless you number your tracks sequentially across a multi-disc album (1 - [last track in album] rather than 1-[last track on disc], 1-[last track on disc]) there's no way for the control point to reorder them (because disc number isn't part of the data that's sent).

What did surprise me is that @WiiM Team have wasted their time using WMS as a source and transforming it into their standard browsing interface (the same one you see for local and USB input), making it even worse than using WMS in its native form (fewer indexes and lost track artists). I hope they don't try and do this with other media servers as it's a feature that will never be used.

There are other problems like search, so just use MinimServer.

Same problem here: randomly jumping to next track while playing. I have tried playback from Plex server (high speed local LAN with utp cable connection( and directly connected USB device. Same tracks plays normaly on further tries. Totally random and very annoying. Furmware is up to date, device is Wiim Ultra.

Anyone has any idea? Thank you.

Hi imodi79,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused! Could you please send us a feedback ticket so we can troubleshoot this issue for you promptly? Thank you for your patience!

Very occasionally, this happens to me, too. I basically have to reboot the DLNA server (a linux machine running Universal Media Server), which apprarently repairs the server's file database. Since it's rare and that fixes it, I haven't delved into the details of what might be going on.

Hi Team,

We identified the root cause of the FLAC-related issues on WiiM Ultra and applied a fix for users who submitted a feedback ticket. This fix will be included in the official firmware release within the next two days. Thank you once again for your assistance!

I use Symfonium on Android to play FLAC files from a Plex server via DLNA and have issues with tracks skipping too early to the next track as well. Looking forward to this firmware release, because I'm relying on Google Cast (not gapless) at the moment.

I also started experiencing this problem since I moved my Wiim Pro Plus to a system in another room where it is connected over wifi instead of ethernet two days ago. The Wiim now randomly skips to the next track during playback, the same problem described in this thread I guess. This is while playing Apple Lossless files from a Synology NAS using Minimserver. Wifi connection status is “very good” in device settings. I’ve had this Wiim since january and never experienced this before. Feedback posted through the app.

I have tried unsuccesfully to use Home Music Share several times during the past few months, with different Android app and Wiim Pro Plus firmware versions (always the latest one at the time).

With the Wiim app (Home Music Share --> shared folder), I can browse the shared folders of my Windows 11 laptop. I see the FLAC and MP3 files.

But when I try to play a file in an album subfolder, it becomes active (blue) for a second, and then playback moves to the next file, until the list is through after just a few seconds. No file ever gets played. There is no error message in the app.

I can play these files from the same shared folders with other apps on my phone (for example with JetAudio+ or X-plore), so I don't think there is anything wrong with the folder sharing. There are no strange characters in the folder or file names, and the path isn't too long.

My Wiim is connected via Ethernet, online streaming services work fine.

As useful as Windows can be, there are better solutions 😉

If the installation and handling of Minim-Server seems too complicated, I recommend installing the free foobar2000 version 1.6.18.

Once this is done, install the plug-in “foo_upnp” (UPnP/DLNA renderer, server, control point)

and then link to the music library accordingly and configure the server under settings (very simple).

Once all this has been done, the library is available as DLNA. If you then place foobar in the Windows autostart folder, the PC can also be started without a screen (if you don't want to do anything other than access your library).

Are you just using Windows Media Sharing? Try installing Minimserver and pointing that at your media library and see if that performs ok

No, I'm not using DLNA on the computer (those servers are listed under "Media Server" in the app). I'm trying to use SMB folder sharing ("Shared folder" in the app).
