Hello good people.

When using the Wiim iOS app to stream FLAC from my external hard drive it’s been skipping randomly to the next track. I’ve been trying to pay attention to anything going on on my phone or whatever to see if there’s something that’s triggering it, but it seems very random. I only occasionally use it to stream so can’t be sure if it started doing this after an app update

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

No, I'm not using DLNA on the computer (those servers are listed under "Media Server" in the app). I'm trying to use SMB folder sharing ("Shared folder" in the app).

Any particular reason? I always see SMB as a last ditch solution when much better solutions like Minimserver are available.

Might it be a permissions issue at the file level?

That component was abandoned years ago so I wouldn't recommend it to new users.

...why not? Do not allow Internet access (can be set under Server) and everything is OK. Just because it's a bit older doesn't mean it's bad. A very reliable and secure solution, even for Windows 11, and unlike MinimServer, without Java.

Primarily because it's not supported, but I seem to remember issues with track numbering and album sorting (not a natural sort) too.
I use foobar but it's not really a user friendly tool, but I take your point about Java and MinimServer which is why I run my Windows instance in Sandboxie Plus.

...I have no problems in this respect. What is really a bit poor, however, is the search function. It should just be a suggestion instead to the windows own programs. I mainly use MinimServer (still 0.8.5.2) on my QNAP NAS only in my own network, I prevent Internet access in the router settings

Given MinimServer relies on UPnP I don't understand how it could work across broadcast domains, unless QNAP has its own tools to do so.
I tend to use Tailscale for remote access, although I've just moved to an OpenSubsonic solution which has great offline functionality so I don't have the need so much now.

OK, maybe my bad English I prevent access to the entire NAS by disabling internet access in the router as I don't need remote access. QNAP once had problems with a piece of firmware, which led to various hacker attacks for some users.

Have you tried copying one of the skipped files to your phone to check that it plays from there (WHA > My Music > Local)?

EDIT: I'm not able to test JetAudio+ as it doesn't offer a trial, but one thing you should know is that WiiM doesn't index SMB shares, it only offers folder/filename browsing, so as has been suggested a server offers a much richer browsing experience.

I wonder if there are authorization problems here and if the Windows firewall needs to be configured.
Just for information: I also use Symfonium on Android with SMB access to my Qnap NAS music library. FLACs and mp3s are played flawlessly on the Ultra, Pro and Mini.

I believe access is via the WiiM hardware (as opposed to WHA), so if there was an authentication/firewall issue I doubt you'd be able to browse it at all.

As I understand it, an attempt is being made to access with the WHA via SMB. It is quite possible that the permissions are “you can look but not touch” (figuratively speaking, it's been years since I dealt with this )

So not firewall/authentication but filesystem permissions perhaps. I did wonder that initially, but given other apps work - with the same access - I wouldn't have thought that could be the case.
