Introducing the WiiM Edition of the Audio Pro A10 MKII and C10 MKII

Hi Cybergrimes

Congratulations with the purchase!

I am very curious as to whether there is a difference between this “WIIM” edition and the “normal” A10 MKII. I’m still - without evidence to the contrary - leaning towards these two models being the same…
The wiim branded you get constant update that include bug fix and feature set. The other just partial or just bug fix. If you want full enchilada stick with wiim brand.

RyanWithWiim has already said they’re not the same hardware-wise, and they won’t share the same firmware or have the same feature set.

Hi Burnside

Ryan said:

“While speakers with Linkplay functionality can be added to the WiiM app, as several folks in here have said, they don't always have all the same advanced features. We'll be bringing these features to the Audio Pro WiiM Edition speakers.”

As you can see he didn’t say that explicitly when it comes to the Audio Pro speakers. He said “they don’t always have all same advanced features.”

It would be great with an explicit statement that for example; “The Audio Pro A10
or C10 MKII and the WIIM editions are not the same hardware-wise (and what is the difference) or they are, but they will get different firmware (however that is done)….”

Does this suffice?

“There are some hardware differences separating the normal A10 MKIIs from the WiiM Editions”

So there is no hardware differences? It’s the “update” part?
For what it's worth I am also unsatisfied with the "there are some hardware differences" response as well. What's different?
The noted features relative to the vanilla A10 MkII are all firmware-based.

Hi Burnside

Thank you for the post.

I may be way to demanding (I appologize) but it would be great if they could spell “some” out.

But I guess time will show the difference between the “linkplay” versions of Audio Pro and the WIIM editions. I think a lot of the owners of the former will be very disappointed as they bought into multi-room and linkplay….

This is more or less the same as Sonos going from S1 to S2 leaving the owners of the older equipment with in reality now useless speakers… I actually would have thought that Audio Pro would be better than this but apparently not….

I assume their are differences.
For instance all the features or the full support. Or hardware wise..
A new version C10MKII ( no Wiim version) are priced here for 285,300..
There is no Wiim version available at this point in Europe.
Only the , regular, ones..

I made another inquiry with AudioPro and got some additional information:

The WiiM Edition "got a completely updated system root. So it will have full functions with other Wiim devices.
It supports more streaming services etc."

They also assured me that LinkPlay support will be maintained for the vanilla AudioPro devices, so there should be no concern about the devices eventually failing to function as netorked LinkPlay devices.

Even if the difference is only firmware, I recognize that WiiM is under no obligation to facilitate a firmware upgrade to the products I purchased from AudioPro. However, it would be a nice gesture (if it is even possible), given that rapid pace of evolution in the WiiM/Linkplay landscape, and my investment no fewer than 4 WiiM Pro+ streamers. If I had known that WiiM would be formally adopting the pre-existing LinkPlay-compliant AudioPro hardware a mere month from my purchase date, I probably would have held off the purchase...

THIS.
I left Sonos after more than a decade and switched to LinkPlay precisely for these reasons. Sonos was changing too much too fast, with "upgrades" and "improvements" that broke basic core functionality, and dropped support for pre-existing products. Crossing fingers that WiiM/LinkPlay takes a more thoughtful path...

If users want everything then stick with wiim brand. Linkplay provide modules for various brands but wiim brand has their own specialty and its own secret sauce that you won’t find to other linkplay products.

How would the WiiM app/firmware recognise a vanilla Audio Pro speaker from a WiiM Edition one were it not for some hardware mod/difference? Perhaps they have blown an eFuse on the circuit board, similar to what Amazon did to prevent Fire TV sticks downgrading to previous firmware, or used some other identification chip.

Audio Pro might not be aware of what WiiM have done, but I keep coming back to what @RyanWithWiim has already said - there are some hardware differences.

It looks like vanilla Audio Pro speakers will be maintained by Audio Pro with whatever enhancements they will bring, while the WiiM Editions will be maintained by WiiM and will get a richer feature set in line with other WiiM products. That doesn’t mean they won’t continue to share a subset of features like speaker groups.

So we can conclude there is a difference.

If there wasn't.. the ,regular, version would have the exact same functionality as the Wiim version.
All the support and the advantages come with the Wiim one, the ,regular, Audiopro would profit the same way as the Wiim version.
That can't be the case..so the difference is definitely there😊👍

I don’t know. There’s no WiiM branding on the speaker and the serial number is a sticker. I’m of the belief it’s existing stock flashed with different firmware.

Do we need to know what's the exact difference?
Other then the Wiim version will be controlled, supported, updated within the WIIM app/ environment?
Because the , normal, pro version wont be..

What i know is i am waiting for the Wiim version.
