Introducing the WiiM Edition of the Audio Pro A10 MKII and C10 MKII

WiiM must have agreed to allow them to use the software whatever they say now on the website. W for wireless, who is going to believe that? Are the old Audio Pro speakers not wireless?
As far as I’m aware, Linkplay licensed the software and still do, and it’s easier for Audio Pro marketing to keep the “W” designation with a slightly lame explanation as what it stands for than to re-brand and then deal with subsequent unwanted attention. For those of us familiar with both brands and their history/plans we can guess what’s happened but for most consumers, it’s just a name. Other than that, I think the audio pro faq page tells us more than I might have expected them to reveal.

Another article adding to the confusion... 🤔
Looks like the Wiim app cannot access the Audio Pro W speakers, although it would be good to get confirmation of that.

From this article

"Note: The W-generation speakers are not discoverable in the WiiM app and therefore cannot be grouped with WiiM’s ecosystem of streamers, amplifiers or wireless speakers."

That’s not what audio pro say on their website though…

Still much confusion. What exactly are you quoting? What I see in the FAQs is very non-committal.

Can you use the WiiM app to control Audio Pro products?

We are aware that this might work, but we can never guarantee any functionality using a third-party app, whether it is the WiiM app or any other. We always recommend using the audio pro app to control our speakers.

It might work unless WiiM block it which is quite likely.

That’s what I was referring to. Yes, it’s still non-communal but not the same as what the article said.

I wouldn’t be that negative in light of what they said here:

OK. I didn't see an answer to the next post though 🙂

According to the Audio Pro website, W now stands for "wireless" 🤷‍♂️

The Q&A on this new page makes for interesting reading, particularly where they blame "the public" for the earlier confusion and where they state: "Room correction has been removed from our app. We are not satisfied with the current performance. If the performance meets our criteria in the future we might add it." Mmm...

Also can't find any mention of squeezelite

I got a reply from Audio Pro about Squeezelite. Make of it what you will 🤷‍♂️. Sounds like they might but you won't know until you buy one because we won't tell you.

"Hello!

Thank you for your message!

It’s likely that some W-generation or Wiim-Edition Audio Pro speakers include Squeezelite and thus can integrate with LMS/Lyrion.
However, it’s not guaranteed for all W-generation models — the specification isn’t broadly documented and Audio Pro’s own disclaimer weakens the guarantee."

Clear as mud, eh? I guess some of their range are bluetooth only so fair enough for those, but they should be able to be definitive about their wifi models.

I was half tempted to buy the A10 W and give it a go and then return it, but as that's normally against the grain for me I haven't...

The claim that " the specification isn’t broadly documented" whether true or not has not prevented Wiim and several other manufacturers from implementing Squeezelite compatibility and nor has it stopped individual developers creating Android and IOS apps that support Squeezelite

My guess is that the particular Audio Pro agent isn't familiar with Squeezelite and the documentation they have about the firmware from Linkplay isn't sufficiently detailed for them to answer the query adequately. It doesn't augur well for ongoing support of their speakers...

I took it to mean the Audio Pro speaker specification isn't broadly documented which is ridiculous.

Thank you for posting this.
I have an A10 W on order, specifically for use with Lyrion. I‘ll cancel my order tomorrow,

You could wait for it to arrive and tell us if it has Squeezelite. If it doesn't send it back. You could also ask them directly if the A10 W has Squeezelite and if they say no then cancel the order. They might get the message.

This has been my approach for the past four weeks. The indicated delivery time was 4-10 days.
In the meantime I‘ve been an avid reader of the info re. this product on here.
Enough is enough!

Earlier replies said that Squeezelite was definitely included 🤔

Just to ask an obvious question that has probably been been asked before: Do all C10 mk2's work with wiims multiroom or do you need a specific "Wiim edition" for it? (Looking to buy one second hand)

No,they don‘t. And if the ‚W‘ models do? … that‘s the major content of this thread.
