More inputs please! And maybe a tape loop?

Another 1x digital and 1x analog inputs would be great!

While I'm at it, maybe a tape loop as well? ie a fixed volume output derived from the source input to go to a recording device, and a return that can be sent to the main outputs for monitoring in place of the source input. Does that make sense?

In other words, when monitoring from a recording device that's recording from the selected source input, the signal path would be: Source --> Fixed out; Recorder return --> Main output

Probably a niche application, but would be awesome!

Cheers, Ralph

To do this I have just added a Pro Plus and link it with my main Ultra.

The Pro Plus has the tape (analog) and mini disk (optical) input and fixed output. The Ultra have the CD (optical) input.

By changing linking and input/output I can play and record from any equipment to any other equipment.

I too have come up with a workaround to allow me to "record" stuff but I would love to see a proper tape loop built in but have the output in the form of a USB-B out that is 24/96 capable or higher to connect direct to a PC for "recording".

Maybe man should look for the necessary solutions from those available on the market? Or should we ask wiim to release a "cassette streamer" that combines a tape recorder and a streamer into a single unit?

Or even four ...

Five... if i wasn't in the initial headcount 😂

Anyways... for a production of such kind how much would be the additional cost to have an additional RCA output, even if it needs an additional internal DAC (don't know if it's needed)... 25-50 bucks?

Friends! There are a lot of people who need a tape recorder function, and both of these people are in this thread.
Tape monitor it's also a good way to insert a processor. It's better in some way than the pre/amp separation.
Edit: I'm generally speaking about "tape monitor" and not necessarily WiiM related...

You forgot to count the hardware and software development, as well as the cost of implementing it into production and sales. The figure would be several orders of magnitude higher.

Right, why not have a stereo in every corner of every room? ;)
If your streamer plays any music, it's already on a hard drive or online, and easily accessible! I can't understand why it needs to be recorded on tape? If this is a hobby for a select few, then you need to buy the right equipment, not look for it in the mass market.

Also the issue of "piracy" you know as you might record audio from spotify, and you might be funding terrorists

:ROFLMAO:

Really only need them with old school graphic EQ, minidisc, tape, or perhaps new EQ units like Minidsp HD or similar, otherwise they've gone the way of the dodo for the majority of the people. Those who buy Wiim and similar things are the minority of the public, and those that need tape loops are even smaller proportion, so adding a old I/O to modern product wouldn't be financially viable.

It's why I disagreed with adding a phono stage onto the Wiim Ultra, it's quite pointless. Those with high end decks would use a dedicated stage, those with budget decks will have it built in, so the only benefit is if the wiim stage is superior to the ones in the budget decks.

Although I do agree with more inputs, like coaxial, HDMI in/out passthrough, E-ARC
