Squeezelite No artist or album listings in LMS search results

They're not using the UPnP/DLNA Media Interface. The problem is with the plugin.
Ok... I'll keep playing.

So, if we're not doing it like they're doing it and their way works, but ours doesn't, shouldn't we change our way?

And... the WiiM search results already contain all the info needed to organize by album and artist, but it isn't, which seems like a data problem, and not a connectivity or interface issue.

I know for sure that some of the people posting here have each got 10+ years experience of digital music and are all telling you that what you are trying to do is not supported (and never will be) yet you keep harping on that you think WiiM should support an LMS plugin that hasn’t had any development on it since the mid 00s.

To repeat. If you want to use LMS use LMS not the WiiM Home App. If you want to solely use the WiiM Home App don’t use LMS.

WiiM doesn't support LMS as a source (via their API) it only supports UPnP and Plex.

The UPnP plugin that you've enabled in LMS doesn't correctly implement Artist and Album search. There is nothing that WiiM can do, short of using the LMS API, which they won't do.

Even if LMS did fix the UPnP interface it's still VERY basic (lacking an AlbumArtist index) so you're better off with another server if you want to stick with the WiiM Home app.

All of the control apps that do work are using something called slimproto or a json interface to the server rather than upnp. That is what the OP hasn’t grasped and it seems he never will.

If I understand correctly he wants to use the WiiM Home App and only the WiiM Home App. I’m not sure any pure UPnP server will meet his requirements either. @simbun is that correct?

Come on. You don't know who you're talking to, either, and it's completely irrelevant.

Also... if you read the thread, you'll know that I do *not* want to use LMS. I want to access my local digital media library *from WiiM* in a way that is usable. If LMS cannot do it, that's fine, but I've given 2 specific counterpoints about why I think it could be possible, but you've not responded to either point.

If you're going to reply, please respond to the specifics of my post, or don't post at all (no one is making you), but this reply isn't helpful.

It seems he's happy with everything apart from search, so I'd have thought most servers would meet his needs given the UPnP/Media Interface is quite basic.

If he wants artist pics etc then use Plex, otherwise MinimServer, as I said originally ;)

Thanks, @simbun - this is quite helpful and answers why the UPnP interface doesn't work.

If there's info elsewhere about why WiiM will not use the LMS API, I'd love to check that out. I'll take a look. Seems odd.

Not a bug. Just limitation of the app.

All this could be sorted with installing lms somewhere. On your pc. On your Mac. On your Nas
On a pi.
I have installed LMS... I posted this thread after installing and getting everything set up. I've tested the Material skin and other LMS clients as part of trying to understand what's going on.

@d6jg - please stop with the ad hominem comments and stick to the topic. This is the first time in this thread anyone has mentioned the availability of slimproto or a JSON interface, and only recently has someone indicated that WiiM will not use the LMS API. Several posts above, I asked why other apps were able to do this functionality, and no one answered with this info until your post. Thank you for that. I completely grasp this idea.

And, I have never said that I want to only use the WiiM Home App. I've just pointed out that there's functionality presented to the user that appears to be *close* to working, and app contains all of the information needed to deliver that functionality, and that there are other apps that do what I'm hoping WiiM can do, as well.

What's weird is that half the advice tells me to use the bridge, and the other half tells me not to use the bridge.
It really is a personal choice. For local LMS music I use Material in a browser while my other half prefers not to complicate matters beyond using the WiiM Home App so uses the bridge, even with your identified limitations.
It is a shame that further development of this plugin has ceased, even though it will always have inherent limitations. Perhaps some knowledgeable souls could resurrect it?

The WiiM Home app doesn't use the bridge.

I’m certainly not wasting any further time on this.

Sometimes people don't want to listen. Like those who navigate by folder, refuse to use tagging, and think wave is better than flac.
I'm trying to listen for the answers to my questions, but they're not there.
Fwiw, all of my LMS tracks are in FLAC, and I rarely navigate by folder... nor browse for my music. But, you do you.

Where? My first (and only) mention of "bridge" is in post #54 and it's about how half the people say the bridge is good and half say it's bad. The same is true for the plugin, fwiw.
Indeed, and my post #73 replies (in what was intended as a constructive way) to that very post #54 of yours. Like d6jd, I am out.
