No sound from LG B5 to Wiim Ultra using HDMI

Hi,

I’m having trouble getting audio from my LG OLED TV to my WiiM Ultra via HDMI ARC, and I’m hoping someone can help clarify what’s going on.
Setup:

TV: LG B5 OLED (2025 model, webOS)
Audio device: WiiM Ultra
Connection: HDMI cable from TV’s HDMI ARC/eARC port to HDMI input on WiiM Ultra

Problem:
The TV does not offer “HDMI ARC” as an audio output option.
The only available outputs are TV speakers or Bluetooth.
In the TV settings, eARC is greyed out / disabled and cannot be selected.
As a result, I get no audio from the TV to the WiiM Ultra over HDMI.

What I’ve tried:
HDMI cable is connected to the correct HDMI ARC/eARC port on the TV.
HDMI-CEC (LG calls it Simplink) is enabled on the TV.
Power-cycled both devices and reconnected the HDMI cable.

WiiM Ultra is powered on and connected before checking audio output settings.
Despite this, the TV never detects the WiiM Ultra as an HDMI ARC audio device, and HDMI ARC does not appear as a selectable output at all.

From my understanding, eARC being greyed out is expected if the connected device doesn’t support eARC — but HDMI ARC itself should still be available, which it isn’t.
Has anyone experienced this with WiiM Ultra and LG TVs? Is there a required setting on the WiiM Ultra to explicitly enable HDMI ARC?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

It only worked one time and now it is back to Wiim not reacting at all when the TV is powered on. I don't have a clue what is going on. Any inputs would be appreciated.

What did you do to make it work one time?
Actually I realise now it never did work. I used the remote and saw that that the volume did change on the ultra after settiing it to "pass-through". But the speakers was not connected at the time (I moved them to do the wall mount). Since the TV and Wiim where communicating after this change in the setting i took for granted everything worked.

But the thing now is that the volume changes when using the remote from the TV but there is no sound coming. Also the Wiim does not power on when powering on the TV. Some kind of communication between the devices must be going on at least.

After hours of testing all kinds of settings I'm on the verge of giving upp. I can get the TV remote to push the volume up and down from the Wiim but no sound what so ever. Anybody that got any idea? Never had an issue with my old Samsung TV.

Ok, that is promising at least. Could you please give me all of your settings? Mine is :OLED55B56LA

Do you have any other ARC gear (like AVR or soundbar) you could connect and test - and if yes, maybe activation of ARC with other gear would stay after connecting to WiiM? And please do not be mad at me for asking such a basic question - are you sure you have connected your WiiM to HDMI 2 (the only one offering ARC at least on my G4) of your LG?

First of all, the OLED55B56LA (which, btw is an excellent TV) has an HDMI-eARC connector (HDMI 3), so use that (also if WiiM does not use eARC - can you disable eARC on the TV, using only ARC?).
Second, you should use the HDMI cable that comes with the WiiM (or another that is compatible with ARC).
Third, enable HDMI output (only) on the TV.
Fourth, enable HDMI-CEC on the TV.
Then it should work.

1. I dont have any other gear but I used the same cable to my old Samsung and it worked yesterday.

2. I use an Amazon essential cable cause I need the extra length but it says it is ARC compatible.

3. eArc is disabled and I have tripled checked it is in the right port. The TV remote actually affects Wiim so that I can change the volume using the TV remote but Wiims says it is not connected to anything via HDMI.

All boxes are checked except the "HDMI output only setting" I am not sure what that refers to and where to find it. Do you mean enable simplink? In that case that has already been done.

Iv'e followed al of these steps below and I have tried pass-through, auto and PCM. Nothing makes it work. I really hope Wiim will answer my support ticket soon. And please don't tell me to reset the device cause that would really suck🤣🤣

a. ARC must be definitely enabled. So, if you cannot selectively disable eARC in favor of ARC, leave eARC enabled. (My LG is only ARC on HDMI 2. You should instead use HDMI 3 - which should be clearly labeled ARC).
b. Please try the HDMI cable which came with the WiiM. I used at first another cable wich was supposed to be ARC, but it did not work.
c. HDMI-CEC (i.e. Simplink) must be enabled on the TV.
d. HDMI-ARC (only) should be enabled as the TV output. Also, try PCM as output format.
e. Enable the correct options on the WiiM for the HDMI input.

If just one of these settings is not correctly configured, it will never work.

Note that volume control (via CEC) will work on any HDMI port. The ARC connection (a special pin in the HDMI connector) is only available on one port.

1. If I read it right - your WiiM worked well with Samsung TV = so it seems that WiiM is capable of behaving as expected (but not with your B5 - at least for now). Now you should check if this problem with LG is WiiM-specific or your LG refuses to communicate with other equipment as well (which you would not be able to test unless you connect something else).

2. If you could test the other cable (e.g. the one coming with WiiM) just briefly - then you could check this box as well, which is always worthwhile just to be sure that you have ruled out all the usual suspects...

3. Volume control (or overall - using LG remote to control other equipment) is slightly different protocol vs. ARC (as pointed out by @hgo58).

I am sure you have already encountered this "troubleshooting guide", but just in case - please see the link

Anyway, from you description it seems that you have tried most (if not all) of those "steps".

To use another cable is really my last resort before factory reset. I had my friend here helping me out mounting this thing on the wall and then draging the cables thru a hole in the wall and now he just left so its not a simple task to try myself.

But this cable is labeled to work with ARC and it did work on my Samsung TV.

Here you can se how it looks on the B5 so it is one port for ARC and eARC
