power supply

Now we are into September I’m wondering what you got and how it’s going for you ?
yo, sorry forgot about this thread... i ended up with the topping p50 powering my wifi-extender + ifi S/PDIF isilencer. and i used the ifi ipower that came with the S/PDIF isilencer with my WiiM pro. tested all configurations, and this one was the one that sounded the best. i haven't gone for any mains filtering so far. just good quality power cables into all the components, directly into their own sockets. i don't even have a mains block or anything.

still on the lookout for some sort of alternative to the iFi iPower range of "audiophile" SMPS. but at the moment i guess thinking about getting an ipower x or elite to try with the WiiM - returned if there is no noticeable improvement. 🤔

Hello guys new member here. I saw this thread when I’m searching for power upgrade s for my Wiim pro. I just tried different kinds of brands of usb chargers that I have from iPhone, Motorola, Samsung, Anker portable charger and 4 port 40w Anker usb wall charger. So far the best for me that made a difference in sound is the wall charger. Then last night after reading your thread I remembered I have some wireworld usb cables. I changed the usb cable for the Wiim pro and the schiit dac and this made the sound better than the stock cables.
Now I’m excited to get an LPS to try them out.
Also wanted to try out the IFI lan silencer and
an Ethernet to Fiber converter setup.
Anyone tried this stuff?
welcome! thanks for sharing your experiences and resurrecting this thread! been eyeing some power upgrades recently - at the moment considering maybe upgrading SMPS, adding DC blockers to the chain. or GOD FORBID - audiophile FUSES? 🐍 😱

i've tried some LPS and SMPS over the past few years. settled on my set up described in the post above...

i have not tried the lan silencer but there are a CRAP ton of these ethernet filters out there now. do you want a list of them?? 🤣

also keep us posted on what you find

Thanks for the welcome! Never heard of audiophile fuse for the Wiim?
I’ve read/seen a lot of different Ethernet filters but they are to expensive the ifi is the cheapest I think.

Regarding the Topping p50 can I power my schiit dac that needs 2v?
Have you tried using a 10awg power with it?
That might improved your system a little.

The problem with switching power supplies is RFI/EMI noise. Some do a better job than others. Cables can conduct or radiate that noise. The iFi filter helps blocking inline noise but radiation mitigation using a shielded cable is important too.

Hi, I want to share my experience.

I replaced the original Wiim SMPS with the LPS Tomanek. The difference is audible even after room correction. The bass is tighter and punchier because the LPS keeps the voltage stable and does not drop the current under load, as an SMPS can do. The sound is cleaner, more dynamic and less tiring, it sounds great even at low volumes. Although EQ will smooth out the curves, a better quality power supply will improve the stability of the signal and this is especially evident in the low frequencies and overall sound control. An upgrade that makes sense.

My setup:

Streamer: WiiM Pro Plus + LPS Tomanek

Amplifier: Rotel A11 Tribute

Speakers: Elac Debut F5.2 + DAYTON AUDIO DRFS1 Damping Feet

Speaker cables: Sommer Cable Orbit 225 MKII (2× 2.5 m)

RCA signal cables: Qed performance 40i

Microphone: Dayton Audio iMM-6C

There is no charge in power load while handling a digital signal or on the analog output of the DAC.

I understand that digital processing and DAC output don’t draw large current peaks like power amplifiers do. However, in real-world use, the power supply still affects the analog stage of the DAC and other active components in the streamer. A more stable and low-noise power source can reduce ripple, jitter, and interference that might otherwise degrade the final signal before it reaches the amplifier.

I'm not claiming night-and-day differences, but in my setup, the improvement—especially in bass control and overall clarity—was audible even after EQ and room correction. Subjective, yes, but repeatable.
