Room Correction... I like it!

Without support for the Cal file, would I point the UMIK mic at that specific speaker cone from the listening position?

I think I would point it between the speakers. You could try pointing it at each speaker in turn for independent channel room correction to see if it makes any difference.

That is not room correction . Because the effects of room matter in the listening position . If you place the microphone too close that would be speaker correction

I would suggest you would place the mic at a similar place as your head would normally be positioned, pointing straight between the stereo speakers.
FYI The cal files for the UMIK mics are not very important as the mics are pretty flat without it

Hi all!

My UMIK-2 calibration mic arrived this week and I'm about to use the Wiim app room correction later today and have a few questions, since the room correction feature got some updates in the past.

My setup is Wiim Ultra --> Chord Qutest --> Audia Flight FL Three S integrated amp --> Dynaudio Special 40

For the room correction, I'll use the UMIK-2 with my Android phone.

Question 1) What frequency range would you recommend in my case with the UMIK-2 and Dynaudio Special 40? I guess I don't touch the Max/Min Gain and Max Q settings? (Btw. what is the default Max Q setting, I'm not sure whether I accidentally moved it and I don't see an option to reset it 😂)

Question 2) Do you recommend using the Multiple Measurements setting (Beta)?

Question 3) "Smoothing" - do I keep the default "1/6 Octave" setting?

Question 4) Would you recommend Stereo or Individual Channel correction? With Stereo, I'd point the mic in the middle between the speakers, and with Individual Channel, I'd point it directly at each speaker, in both cases from the listening position, is that right? For both options I would use the standard calibration file of the UMIK-2, not the 90-degree one, correct?

Thanks a lot for any answers and have a great weekend everyone!

Typically you want to correct 300/400hz and below. Don't touch MF/HF.
Only want to apply cuts. No boosts. Or if you do boost only apply a couple of dB, and not many filters.
Do individual channel correction.
Put microphone at the listening position, where your head is. Whether you point the mic to that specific speaker, or point it upwards then use the suitable 90' or straight correction file to upload is up to you.

Was there a reason to choose the UMIK-2 over the UMIK-1?
I leave the mic pointing between the speakers for stereo and individual channel measurements.

If the wiim does time alignment you want the mic at the listening position.

Speaker response changes depending on speaker location, so you wouldn't want the mic where your feet are for example (say head height but a meter in front of your head)

Eh? Of course the mic is at the listening position. The OP asked whether to point it at the relevant speaker when using the individual speaker correction.
Also the WiiM doesn't use the phone mic (internal or external) for time alignment.

You said "between the speakers" that doesn't imply it's at listening position.

Thanks, no not really, I read that both are viable options and decided to go with the newer one
