I think I would point it between the speakers. You could try pointing it at each speaker in turn for independent channel room correction to see if it makes any difference.
That is not room correction . Because the effects of room matter in the listening position . If you place the microphone too close that would be speaker correction
I would suggest you would place the mic at a similar place as your head would normally be positioned, pointing straight between the stereo speakers.
FYI The cal files for the UMIK mics are not very important as the mics are pretty flat without it
