Something Big is Coming to WiiM Home

Hi,

Is the app compatible with all generations of Apple TV?

If you know the generations of Apple TV devices that can be supported, please let me know.

Thanks 😄.
According to a screenshot on the Facebook group, it needs tvOS 15.6 or later. I don’t know how that ties in to model numbers - App Store is only available on gen 4 or later afaik

Are you referring to the Apple TV HD (4th gen) (2015)?

According to Jemini, TV OS 15.6 is available on 2015 and later models, so it matches what you are talking about. If this app only supports Apple TV, I will buy a used small TV and Apple TV HD to try it out.

I was tempted to do that but I might wait on a fire tv version ;)

Hi LP007FR, team

We're currently troubleshooting the issue - it may be related to a permission setting. Since this is the first release of our Apple TV app, a few initial glitches are expected. Thanks for your patience as we work to resolve it!

Hi @WiiM Support, (and @WiiM Team)

Is there any chance in the future that this app will be rolled out to devices other than Apple TV?

I admit that I am frustrated that Apple is always given priority, but if there is no possibility, I am ready to get an Apple TV right away.

Is there any chance at all that I will be able to see this neat app on a FireTV stick, Google TV, etc.?

Thank you 😊

it would be great to just have native hdmi display output from the device itself. that would satisfy the needs for more people and would mean less work keeping apple/android apps in sync with device updates. Just a thought. So far NAD is the only company I can think of that offers video out with their hdmi arc equipped streaming devices.

Hi antlestxp, team

Our team has evaluated the native HDMI output approach but feels it's not the optimal solution for our user base.

Firstly, none of our existing WiiM devices support HDMI out, so this feature wouldn’t be compatible with current products. Secondly, TVs typically have far more powerful graphics engines than audio devices, allowing for a significantly better user interface experience when rendering UI directly on the TV.

Hope that makes sense - happy to discuss further if you have any thoughts!

In that case, I would need an app inside the device, and as a result, I would need to connect a TV to each device and control each device individually?

I have two yamaha AVRs and that is already possible, but I need individual control for each device. To control multiple devices at the same time, I need a phone app...

We don't yet know what features the newly announced Apple TV app will have, but if simple device control is possible, it will be something that can work with multiple devices.

(In reality, however, it may be an app with player functions only, including Now Playing Screen display and preset selection, etc.)
