Specifically for the TV App

Please improve the TV app so that it can show visualisers, VU meters, etc.

A lot of people appear to be very much in love with VU meters at the moment, so having them on a 55", 65", 75"...who knows, 100" TV should put a big smile on their faces.

Thank you.
Decadence is one thing, extremly bad taste another.

I can't agree. There's taste, and there's bad taste.

And there’s some people liking what you consider ‘bad taste’ and you deciding to shrug your shoulders, or you deciding you’d hate the facility to exist, even if you were never going to use it, and even though its existence would never, could never bother you.

Similar thought ran thru my head - just because you can doesn’t mean you should 🤣🤣

And there’ll be some people who’ll never use eq, never have a sub, never stream music (or never use any source other than streaming) who’d use the same point to criticise the Ultra (and other models).

And people who’d never use the TV app who criticise its very existence.

There’s a word for people like that…but hey, I don’t want a ban.

That is not technically possible, even if you want to.

Having stationary graphics like the record spinning can cause burn in. Yes modern TVs can suffer from burn in. I ruined my 43 inch TV by playing a poker game on it. The stationary graphics destroyed the screen.

Agreed - looks like it’s picking up metadata from the stream for the display, not the audio. Probably the same reason that the WiiM Home app doesn’t have visualisations.
The TV App work just like the WiiM Home App. The WiiM device provide Web Services that contains the data to display (except for the lyrics I think).

So for the TV or WiiM Home App to display a VU meter or Spectrum Analyser it will need the complete data set to be forwarded from the WiiM device.

It will not only be a big amount of data but it will also be delayed and therefore useless for real time display.

Pertaining (though just a little) to the above, I have an Ultra in my upstairs lounge with a USB drive attached.

I have a Mini in the downstairs lounge, through whic I can access the music on the USB drive.

The WiiM TV app I the downstairs lounge definitely displays the artwork on the USB (not drawn from t'internet), but also displays lyrics for music played from the USB (which obviously aren't on the USB).

…which will be using the metadata from the usb file playback, not detecting from the actual audio stream in a Shazam-style manner.

One of the 'albums' I've checked doesn't atually exist (a self-made compilation), so I'm very impressed that it manages to pick up my own album art from the USB and lyrics from t'internet simultaniously.

The lyric lookup is based on the artist and track name meta data and done by the TV App (not the WiiM device, as far as I can see). The synchronization to the audio uses the track time meta data and that doesn't always work.

This do however mean that you cannot get lyrics for radio stations, as you can with Shazam and also that the look up is often wrong if the same title by the same artist exists in different versions (example: Hotel California by the Eagles in original and live versions), if it can find it at all.

You can if you’re playing radio via Lyrion, the WiiM tv app will then show lyrics. Just doing that with the excellent Radio Paradise Mellow Mix.
Radio Paradise do also work from the WiiM Home App. This is because it is not a real radio station but a stream that is playing individual tracks with time information (like a playlist).
