Sub out question

I have an external USB DAC with a Sub coming from the Ultra and also have the sub slider to YES. What happens? Does the DAC only get the frequencies above the crossover? Or does the DAC get the full 20-20k?

And I have the line out wired to an external headphones. And if I switch outputs from USB out to LINE OUT (my headphone amp), the sub still is active. I suppose on my wishlist is the ability to have the sub yes/no for each output.

I have two other options for the sub to work around the above issue.
1) I can put low level rca L+R to the sub and have the sub control crossover,.
2) I have a sub out on my amp although there is no crossover control....I think it is a fixed 80Hz

If I do either of the above, do I choose sub=NO in the Ultra?
Why do you need an external DAC? The DAC in the ultra is excellent. I don’t think you would hear any significant difference between the two.

I did, indeed, listen to both. The external DAC is better. It also cost quite a bit more than the Ultra.

When I first got my Ultra, I used it as streamer only, and connected it to a Gustard A26 dac/preamp, then to a pair of Atma-sphere class D power amps. It sounded wonderful with this setup. Then I tried the RCA outputs to the Atma-sphere power amps directly. With this setup, The Ultra is acting not just as a streamer but also as a preamp. Honestly, I don't hear any difference between the 2 setups. Wiim Ultra's dac is just doing as good a job as the Gustard A26. The Gustard A26 is a $1.5K dac, and was widely praised for its performance. My speakers are hi-end high efficient horn speakers, but the LF only goes down to 50Hz. When I also hooked up and dialed in a couple subs with the subout on Ultra. The sound has been incredible. I have quite a few high power expensive equipments, but all these new tech low cost gears just make them look like a waste.

Have me curious to A and B the Wiim DAC to my current external now (Musician Pegasus 2). But I heard a significant difference from the Wiim to the Ifi black label (burr brown DAC). Even with JBL bookshelf speakers from the mid 90's.
