Subwoofer setup wiim ultra

Hello people,

i have a SVS sb 2000 pro subwoofer. I would like to use the SVS app to setup the subwoofer, because i can regulate the slope on the svs app.
I was under the impression that using the 'bypass mode' in the WIIM ultra subwoofer section would eliminate the bass management on the WIIM ultra and let it be done by SVS. But when i did this, and tested this by sliding the crossover bar on the ULTRA i heard a difference in sound. That would mean the crossover is still working on the ultra ?!

can someone help me with this. As nice as the bass management is on the ultra, i still think the SVS app has some benefits.

(by the way does anyone know what slope wiim ultra uses in their bass management ?)

thanks in advance for the help.

In subwoofer bypass mode the crossover still operates on the main speakers so the sound will change if you change the frequency.

ow okay, thats new. Thanks for that information. But why did they do it like that. Why would i want to change the crossover of my speakers ?
Would be better if they let the speakers do their original crossover right, or at least give us an option for it. Or am is missing something ?

Doesn't the other option below the subwoofer bypass allow you to do that?

I bet they agonised for hours over what the options should be called and how to describe them in a single sentence!
Maybe they needed a little more time...

If you enable the 2nd option then your speakers get the full signal, same as 'normal'.
i.e. they still get the stuff below the crossover value in the wiim app, and therefore will still "output bass".

so correct me if im wrong; The 'main speaker output bass' should actually be called 'disable crossover for main speakers. and the one above that should be called 'disable / bypass crossover subwoofer.

Or, to avoid the negative,
Send full signal to sub.
Send full signal to speakers.

But I came up with that in 15 secs, so might need another minute or so to refine them.

nice work guys, hope @WiiM Support will catch up on this and edit this.
Im assuming im not the only one struggling with this..
You could try reading this. I'm sure it'll be crystal...

thanks for that. so i will put both to 'on' and then let the SVS app do the rest of the work. makes sense.
Makes sense only if you need to run your mains full scale. Is that really what you need to do even though you have a very nice sub in your system? By doing that you’re foregoing one of the key benefits of having a sub: reducing the low end burden on your mains. Consider leaving the Main Speakers Output Bass switch turned off. That way you can optimize main output by using the Ultra crossover as your high pass crossover for the mains. With the Sub Bypass mode switched on, you can then use the SVS app to control the sub’s low pass filter. Best of both worlds.

I love the SVS app and have used it synergistically with the wiim bass management and EQ functionality to dial in bass management and EQ generally for my Micro 3000 and stand mount Sonus Fabers. I’ve used the SVS app to establish 3 PEQ filters for the sub and use the Wiim to set the PEQ filters for the mains. Very happy with this solution and the SVS app made the measuring and listening testing so much easier.

Thank you so much, i def dont want both the speakers and the sub doing the bass. That was not what i wanted.
Man there is so much to know for things o work well.
I was always thinking the crossover on the ultra app was the same as on the svs app (low pass).
So im going to do what you said. What should i put the crossover in the ultra app at you recon? (Opticon 2 mk2; 59 - 25000khz)

Thanks again for your help

You might try searching Dali user groups to see what others have done but probably a conservative starting point is setting the crossover in the ultra at 80hz and likewise for the Svs app. Proceed from there with testing and listening. I used REW to help but ultimately it comes down to listening. Every system and room and set of ears is different so don’t be too locked into whatever “rules” are preached online. If you haven’t got it quite right your ears will tell you over time.

No, this would not be better. The speakers don't have any "crossover" limiting their low end output. They just have a "natural" roll-off (and "natural" does not stand for "most natural sound". It just stands for "we couldn't do bass any better without compromising other characteristics or making the box a lot bigger".

Being able.to adjust the slope on the subwoofer's low pass filter is only important if you don't pick a proper high pass filter for the mains, which is generally the preferred way. You would then try and match the sub's LP filter slope to the mains' "natural" high pass slope (which is different for closed and ported designs). Unfortunately, it's a clean and well defined slope under anechoic conditions, only. In-room it's quite messy and not easy to match.

However, you can try what sounds best to you, even if my take on sub integration is different (and more in line with e.g. WiiM or @knickerhawk). :D
