This is my experience as well.

Most people I know (who aren't into audio) just use TV / laptop / BT speakers, and earbuds.

People who own soundbars, smart speakers, or over-ear headphones are seen as audio enthusiasts by most.

People who even know what a streamer does seem to be a very small minority among the general population.

This forum is not representative of the general population.

Statistics indicate that 50% of all households in North America own a soundbar.
(I don't know if that's true or not..)

Therefore, even if Yamaha releases a successor to the WXC-50, I can't see how it could compete on equal footing with streamers like the WiiM in terms of functionality (and likely sound quality as well).

The WX series kind of was but, needed updating. Pretty much that simple. Yamaha has suddenly hit a wall in this specific kind of component.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a stereo pair of wireless streaming loudspeakers please?

They must ‚speak‘ DLNA/UPnP, ideally have vTuner on board and should be not much bigger than these:




This is.a Bluesound Pulse Flex 2i, which I have a pair of used in stereo. Sonically I‘m happy with them, but I want to get off the BlueOS train. I make very regular amendments / additions to my local library. Updating my UPnP server is quickly done and is instantaneously available on WiiMs and other UPnP devices. Not so on the Bluesouds. They have their own library via SMB sharing. Letting them rescan takes a bit and it just feels so useless with a server being on my local network.

Naturally I have considered the Sound / Sound Lite. But I really don‘t like their pod design and all-over fabric jacket. I‘d much rather have a classic box design.

Any thoughts?

I‘ve just ordered a Mini.
The USB socket on the Bluesound has a current output (it charges my iPhone) so I can (hopefully) power the Mini from there with a short USB cable. This will keep the cable clutter at bay, which was one of my concerns.
A new toy is on its way.

Amazon has delivered in sub-24 hours. A Mini, a short optical cable and a Remote 2. Yes, I’m a lazy bastard.
I was very sceptical about the chance to power the Mini from the USB socket of the Bluesound, which is speced at 5V/1A. I had found differing power consumptions for the Min,1.5A and 1A, both from WiiM websites, mind you. Anyway it works as planned.
Very happy, as I am now on the WiiM platform with UPnP for this little system as well.
