This is the biggest reason to buy an Ultra instead of other streamers , the soundquality gain will be huge !
Everyone who uses the ultra together with ported main speakers and dont have a subwoofer - you can benefit using the 24/dB oct subwoofer filtering. This setting is also a 24dB/oct highpass filter.
Below tuning frequency in a ported loudspeaker, theres only distortion and uncontrolled cone movements. At the tuningfrequency of the tube, and one octave above it, the tube makes some air backpressure to the driver making the speaker play much louder with less distortion than a closed box speaker. This is how you do it :
1. You must know the tuning frequency of your loudspeakers port.
2. If the tuning frequency is 35 Hz , use the subwoofer crossover for the main speakers in the subwoofer meny. Put it at 35 Hz.
3. Your bass signal will now be down 24 dB electrically at 17,5 Hz , ( even more acoustically ) making your speakers max spl much higher in the bass area above 35 Hz, and the distortion goes down radically.
4. This technique, combined with another PEQ techniques can be used to make the bass response much cleaner.
