Hi WiiM Team and Community,

I am a WiiM Ultra user and I really enjoy the device. I would like to request a new automation feature that I believe would be incredibly useful for many users, especially those of us living in apartments.

Currently, we can save different EQ and Room Correction profiles, but we have to switch them manually. It would be highly beneficial if we could schedule these profile changes based on the time of day through the Routines/Alarms feature.

My specific use case:I want to automatically switch between a 2.1 setup during the day and a 2.0 setup at night to avoid disturbing my neighbors.

  • At 6:00 PM: Automatically switch to "Profile A" (Subwoofer Output ON + 2.1 Room Correction applied).
  • At 11:00 PM: Automatically switch to "Profile B" (Subwoofer Output OFF + 2.0 Room Correction applied).
Why this is needed:While manual switching is possible, automating this would make the daily listening experience completely seamless. Many users have strict noise restrictions at night. Having the WiiM Ultra automatically disable the subwoofer and load the corresponding 2.0 room correction profile at a specific time would be a killer feature for a smart audio system.

Thank you for considering this request!

Can this already be mostly achieved with presets and alarms (apart from room correction)?
I think it can. At least mostly. RoomFit profiles cannot be tied to presets, but custom EQ could make up for that.

I see the potential usefulness in some cases and yet I have my doubts. A change of setup precisely to the minute doesn't look like a real world situation to me. On some days the situation will be different than on others. And what about the weekends? What if I explicitly select a preset with the subwoofer enabled, but the time driven setup says no (or vice versa)? Which setting should take precedence? The answer could be much more detailed listening profiles, as has been proposed for a long time.

I honestly think that a single "late night mode" will be more useful in practice. And that's exactly what EQ can do right now. And yes, I know that this is a manual step, so not what has been requested.

Close but not quite I think - while you can turn the sub on/off and choose what eq/peq to apply in a smart preset, I don't think they yet support roomfit profiles.
Though one could just add a high-pass filter EQ with a preset - in that case there's no need to disable the sub or to change RoomFit profiles to get the desired end result (i.e. bass limited reproduction with room correction).

This seems useful as a feature.

Since subs are powered separately, a smartplug can do this today and inexpensively. Set a timer once and you're golden. (y)

Hi
I've requested several times to extend the alarm to a routine function, but it hasn't been implemented yet.

With the current alarm feature, presets without specified music can't be registered as alarms. This needs to be enabled first. Otherwise, music will start playing automatically at 6 AM and 11 PM every day.

If you're listening to music when the alarm activates, that music will stop automatically and switch to the alarm source. If you can tolerate this, I recommend setting a silent track as your alarm. This prevents music from playing unexpectedly when you're not home.

As other members have already suggested, using the EQ's high-pass filter can suppress the low frequencies coming from the Sub.
If your subwoofer has an auto-standby feature, but it will likely turn off automatically due to the high-pass filter.

In any case, since it's impossible to do this completely automatically, I recommend submitting a request ticket through the feedback section of the WiiM app. 🙂

Edit: Here I explain how to register a silent track to a preset.

Thank you all for the great suggestions and the creative workarounds! I really appreciate the active community here.

Regarding the Smart Plug (@hoohoohoo) or High-Pass Filter EQ workarounds (@dominikz, @Wiimer), there is a critical catch in my specific setup. I have my crossover frequency set at 80Hz. If I simply cut the power to the subwoofer or apply a high-pass filter to mute the lows, my main speakers are still actively crossed over. This would leave a significant gap in the frequency response below 80Hz, which drastically reduces the listening quality.

That is exactly why simply disabling the subwoofer isn't enough. I need the system to fully switch from a 2.1 RoomFit profile (with crossover) to a 2.0 RoomFit profile. In the 2.0 mode, the main speakers would receive the full frequency range and utilize their own specific room correction, ensuring the overall sound quality remains optimal even without the sub.

I also completely agree with @harkpabst. A strict time-based schedule might indeed cause conflicts on weekends or holidays. A dedicated "Late Night Mode" toggle or shortcut that instantly swaps the Subwoofer Output, Crossover settings, and RoomFit profile all at once would be an incredibly elegant and practical solution.

I will follow @Wiimer's advice and submit this complete concept (the Late Night Mode and profile switching) directly through the feedback section in the WiiM app so the development team can look into it.

Thanks again, everyone!

Setting the Sub to off in the preset switches the main speakers to full-range playback.

Create a PEQ to counteract the low-frequency filter in the RoomFit profile for 2.1ch, then register it to this preset to use it as a profile for 2.0ch.

That would depend on how you configure the high-pass filter. E.g. if you set it at 50Hz your sub would continue to reproduce 50-80Hz.
If instead you disabled the sub, your speakers would likely play down to around 50Hz, which would give a similar result.

Note that when you consider noise transmission to your neighbours the main factors will be frequency and SPL, not whether it is the speaker or the sub generating the sound.

Hope it helps!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and workarounds.

To give a bit more context on why simply cutting the bass doesn't quite work for me: my sub digs down to 20Hz, while my main speakers can comfortably hit 34Hz.

If I just use a high-pass filter to chop off everything below 50Hz or 80Hz, the music loses its foundation and sounds noticeably thin. On the other hand, if I completely switch over to a proper 2.0 setup, my mains can still play down to 34Hz naturally. The music still feels full and complete, but the bass energy is much gentler than what the sub produces, so it doesn't easily travel through the walls and bother the neighbors.

As for using a PEQ to compensate when the sub is turned off, it sounds good in theory. However, trying to manually "reverse-engineer" a 2.1 RoomFit curve to act like a 2.0 curve is pretty tough to get right. Since the 2.1 RoomFit already alters the mains to blend with the sub, being able to just load a dedicated, properly measured 2.0 profile is far more accurate and saves a lot of manual tweaking.

And to @Mr Ee, buying a second WiiM Ultra just for stereo listening is certainly one way to solve it! But I'm really hoping a software update can save my wallet instead.

I've submitted a ticket to the WiiM team with this feature request. Hopefully, they will consider adding a true "Late Night Mode" or automated profile switching in the future. Thanks again for the input!
