Wiim is probably the only one that can provide a great streamer for $250-300. Other builders would charge double.

I don’t think plus will sell well for that price range for just improved dac. The money would have spent well if they focus on connections that user been asking particularly usb but not internal dac. I wonder what chipset are they using ess/akm?
Brantome is insider on wiim he knows what’s going on. He deliver a news that shock us that only improved dac and nothing more. I’m sure this left many of us with sour taste.
why this need for usb audio?

I’m not an insider, I just help moderate the group and am perhaps more active on the group (and report issues) more than others, reading most if not all comments as any moderator should. Plus you can infer a lot from what isn’t said as well as what is - Wiim have said that new device will have a better DAC and improved analogue performance, but little else. I’m guessing they would have said more if there currently was more - it’s not as if they’ve not been bombarded for other features : however, they haven’t confirmed anything else.To be honest, I've been suspecting it for a while and it seemed logical to me...
but you see .. personally having a modest use "in the expectations of audiophiles" of streaming like a large majority of the people concerned by these two wiim "general public via amazon "alexa and co"".. on the contrary, I am delighted with a better dac, if iit s correct, rating if I allow myself to do without a dac cables etc

And if wake-up light have audio outputs, l replace my bedroom Echo dot and Mini with this.
It may be premature, but I would like the second generation of the 2024 edition to have a display like the Echo show. I would be happy if I could operate WHA on this screen.

If the Dac is equal or worse than what is in my integrated I don’t need it . If the digital section is the same as the WiiM mini or pro I don’t need it .

The thing is I don’t want to pay as much as my amp and speakers for a streamer . So I want to extract as much as possible for as little money possible. The source is important . So I think it would make it commercially successful for a lot of people in this hobby if it is better both as a pure transport and as Dac than argon audio solo.
The general consensus that users wants are features sets not better analog out since most are connecting pro on external dac. Even on those who purchase node are not happy with built in dac and still connect on external knowing this unit is 600. Optimizing the digital circuitry is much more preferable.

Clocks and circuits that drive the signal to a digital output ( toslink or coax) . I have read the opinions in ASR forum however I believe the truth is in the middle .
Let me guess, wiim will add 100 for better dac inside but most of us has expensive dac that cost many times over than pro. I think this plus is waste of investment on them where they can use the investments where it make sense such as feature sets and digital circuit optimization to be fed on dac. 100 dollar dac is not audiophile it’s for a beginner and casual listener.
I’m not saying all but some who preferred the sound signature of their dac.

I think you’re sort of missing the point and taking an overly personal view of this. Ok, the next Wiim device might not suit you or a lot of people here who already have a better DAC, but equally you can’t deny the requests here and elsewhere (like on the ASR Wiim mini thread) where new or potential WiiM buyers have asked about what DAC to get to partner with their Wiim device. If WiiM produce a Pro with a better DAC which addresses what some see as the Pro’s shortcomings in the analogue area, then that could satisfy that section of the market. Even if it adds 100€ or so to the price (which is pure speculation as no price has been mooted), you could argue that would be better value than a separate 100€ DAC due to savings in the other necessary components. And it would still be half the price of a Node which some do consider ‘audiophile’.
Maybe Wiim’s next iteration will include i2s, usb audio out etc that you want, but let’s not decry what they’re doing just because it’s not what you want when others might.
There’s two types of reviewer. One based on ASR on measurement and the other based on personal listening using their ear like cheap audio man. Some will tell you they don’t listen to measurements and listen to the music. My take is my smsl and topping measure vastly superior than those multibit that I owned but listening experience the multibit sound more depth and pleasing to my ear. Maybe distortion is pleasing on my ear much like tube amp that’s loaded with distortion?
