Which external DACs do not pop or click when changing sample rate?

I have the SMSL SU-1 connected to my Wiim Ultra via Coaxial and the sample rate is set to fixed because if not I get popping/clicking noises. I have tried Optical and USB (which is worse). I have researched this and changed settings, but still have the issue, even when I tried it with another DAC (iFi Neo idsd).

So, was wondering which DACs don't have this issue?

I have active speakers Warfdhale Diamond A2 connected via optical out of Ultra. There are no noise of any kind.

When using USB on my Topping E50 II, I don't get the clicks or pops, but if I use Toslink optical, I do. Have you tried USB on your SU-1 instead of coax?

You could try using the built in DAC in the Ultra, as this doesn’t pop, or click, and actually sounds rather good.🤔

I was actually looking at this DAC, can get it used for £90. Glad you don't experience it via USB.

Yes I have.

It was a while since I tried this smsl su1 dac with ultra but I remember that I indeed had pops with sample rate change with usb but I think it did not happen when used optical. At the end I dropped idea of using this dac.

Nice, but this is in relation to external DACs. I use passive speakers
An active speaker with optical input do have a DAC and it's external to the WiiM. 😁

I understand what you mean. You are talking about external DAC devices (equipment) with all its additional gimmicks. Not the DAC itself.

Yea, think I'm going to drop it and just use the internal DAC for now. Do you use an external DAC at all?

I constantly have idea of trying external dać in my setup but for me ultras’s internal sounds pretty good although I don’t have comparisons. I tried smsl as I had spare one but finally ended as mentioned.

I have Fiio k13 r2r but use it for headphones. Maybe try it one day as pure dac.

My probem is that the my Wiim Ultra Device isn't dead silent. This is one of the reasons I use my Topping DX7 Pro. The Wiim is picking up some interference from the HDMI.

I also believe that the implementation of my DAC in Topping gives some sonic advantages, however, I know that this a very subjective thing.

Answering to OP, no clicks pops on my side with Topping DX7 Pro

If this your problem I‘d try another HDMI cable even though I find it improbable that this could be the cause of the noise. But apart from a technical fault within the Ultra I cannot think of anything else.
My Ultra‘s DAC output is dead silent with HDMI connected to my TV. I believe others‘ is too.
