WiiM Amp Firmware v5.0.711031 Update - Mar 17, 2025

Just out of curiosity, do you hear a small spike noise when that WiiM amp is on on/off? (Perhaps you can hear it on your WiiM amp pro.)
No noises at all besides the (very) soft “pop” noise my KEF Q150s make when the amp turns on.

I use it both in near field where the amp is at arms reach and 3 meters away and I’ve never heard it make any kind of noise, even coil whine or the usual relay switch clicks you can hear with audio gear.

Everything seems to indicate I’m running pro firmware on the regular amp but then why is it reported in the app as 5.0.X and not 5.2.X?

Still awaiting for Wiim’s support ticket reply by the way.

Next time there is an update for the Amp Pro it would be interesting if your Amp received it.

Maybe its the pop noise I was referring to, do you hear the same noise on the Amp Pro?

Also, when you switch to Bluetooth input, does the LED turn green?
(The LED on the Amp pro is blue, the Amp is green.)

Only the WiiM team knows why. If you get a clear answer, please let us know here.🙂

I only have this single Wiim Amp, sadly no Pro model to compare to.

The LED is green when in Bluetooth mode, just tested it.

Thanks for all the suggestions and questions, I’ll make sure to update if/when we figure it out.

Sorry, I thought you had two of them.
If the LED is green, it is not Pro. It seems to be just a firmware issue...

Just received a reply from Wiim support,

Apparently my Wiim Amp is a newer board revision and the firmware isn’t currently unified, they told me to expect an OTA tomorrow.

So yeah, a bit weird but expected and I’m just happy to know I don’t have to RMA the unit.

Very curious about the improvements though, I don’t think anyone has talked about it.

What improvements? They have probably used the same PCB for both the WiiM Amp and Amp Pro but changed the parts list.

Could well be. The "project_build_name" ...

... might indicate a change to a 4 layer PCB when the original was not. Pure speculation, of course.

As mentioned by @Wiimer, we have had the same discussion before.

This is exactly what Wiim support stated:

Your WiiM AMP is a 4-layer board, and the version number cannot be unified with the 2-layer board at present.

I’m not familiar with the amp pro infernales but since the bottom panel of my unit and binding posts are the same as the Pro I assume they’re basically reusing the Amp Pro PCB for the Amp and just leaving out the PFFP circuit and something along those lines.

It can’t be cost cutting since 4 layers should be more complex to integrate and assemble than 2, bit again I haven’t seen a teardown of my v7 Wiim vs the Pro model to confirm.

I’d happily disassemble my unit to compare with the v1 and v2 teardowns but don’t wanna risk voiding my warranty.

As I said before, you can be pretty sure that PCB version 7 is the best available so far. (y)

There are probably few PCB version 1 and 2 amps out in the wild. PCP version 4 and 5 have been the norm for most of the lifetime of the WiiM Amp.

Since updating my Wiim Amp FW to xxxxx31 on Sunday, RP won't activate and play. I just get about a 0.25 sec view of the play bars then nothing.
Really frstrating as the Wiim Amp is in a different room (TV room) where I like to sit and read. Luckily I can fire RP through it from Innuos Sense, but still annoying as cant turn my phone off as need it for skip, pause etc.

I see the same. Clicking on Radio Paradise from the music services menu just produces a really short animation but nothing else. I can still play RP from the recently played list.

I opened a ticket about it 👍

Just turned on my Amp to update to the latest firmware and RP seems fine for me. Have you logged in, or power cycled your device?

Logged in? In my case I read post #52 then powered on my Amp and sure enough I couldn't open Radio Paradise.
Yeah, logged into RP using the person icon on its page in the WiiM home app. Maybe that makes a difference as I have no issues playing RP after updating my WiiM Amp

Surely you don't need to login to RP, anyway I can't open the RP page in the app, that is the issue 😃

Ok, I thought you meant you couldn’t see any progress on the play bar.

Logging in to RP allows you to rate tracks, and if you have enough rated tracks, you then get access to the My Favourites Mix containing those tracks. I’ve been rating tracks since I first started using RP aeons ago.

Here is a video showing the issue.
