WiiM Amp playing a ringing sound like an alarm after a while

Hi,

I have been searching online for some days now but I can't seem to find something specific about my issue.

You can hear from the attachment how this ringing goes even though there is audio going on in the background. It stops whatever audio there is and it continues the ringing. I can't stop it unless I reboot the amp via the app.

Is there any option that is enabled or something like that which I'm not aware of?

Thanks,

As far as I know, this is the Alexa alarm sound, please try holding down the mic button on the WiiM remote and say "Stop the alarm".
(But I must confess that I have never heard this alarm sound from a WiiM device..)

Yeah, it does sound like that. You can always check what Alexa alarms there are in the Alexa app, more, alarms & timers, alarms, settings, device name to see if one was inadvertently set on your WiiM device.

You can also check if you have the missed timers option as explained in this link - maybe that’s what’s causing it to indirectly play on your WiiM device.

Well the issue is that I don't have Alexa enabled because I don't use Alexa or Google Assistant. If I try to go to Alexa I get the setup page.

Do you have your amp connected to or paired with anything else?
It's connected with HDMI arc for TV but as far as I noticed when watching TV this doesn't happen.

However, it is also connected with Spotify but I mostly keep TuneIn radio turned on which is when it happens.

I noticed that there was also this Voice service called Squeezelite enabled but I don't use it. I just disabled it but can't confirm that was the reason for the ringing.

Squeezelite isn’t a voice service, it’s just in the wrong place in the app, I reported that.

What do you mean by TuneIn being kept on? In the WiiM home app or elsewhere?

Have you tried my first suggestion?

If you use voice control with the microphone button on the Remote and the alarm tone does not stop, I think you can confirm that the output is coming from something other than Alexa.

Also, and I don't think this is relevant, but also please check to see if there are any alarms set up in the WiiM app.

Yeah, in the app. It's almost always on except when I turn on the TV or sometimes Spotify from my phone.

Ok, can you try playing a station from vtuner instead of TuneIn?

Are you logged in to your TuneIn account in the Alexa app - if so, try logging out of TuneIn there; if not, try logging in.

I just tried vTuner and it's not playing BBC6 Radio at this moment, so I'm not sure I can use it.

I don't use Alexa and I'm not logged in to TuneIn, I just go to Browse in WiiM Home app, Music Services and use TuneIn there.

Think we’ve hit a brick wall then I’m afraid. Time to call in the troops at WiiM by raising a ticket thru the more/feedback section in the WiiM app, explaining where the issue occurs and including your sound clip and screenshots. Must admit to being stumped by this…

Yeah, I am also surprised about this. I am assuming it is happening after one of the updates but I'm not sure which update started it. I'm also assuming it's localized but I don't think I left it turned on long enough with Spotify or TV.

Thanks a lot though, I hoped someone else was experiencing the same issue.

Btw, have you or your family never used Alexa before?
To be honest I still suspect Alexa is the culprit.

I listened again to the audio file the OP posted and tried to see if I could reproduce this. But the results seem to be different.

I set the alarm using the voice control on the WiiM remote; as soon as the alarm tone is played from the WiiM, the music volume is reduced but continues to play. However, in the OP's case, the radio is louder when the alarm is interrupted. So this is most likely not Alexa's normal alarm behavior.

And I found a bug(?): when I set an alarm on the WiiM remote, the music volume becomes low and does not return to normal when I stop the alarm. To get back to the original volume, you have to use the microphone button again to play the music.
(This is not a major problem, as I can recover by telling Alexa to "stop the alarm" and then saying "play continue")

@WiiM Team, @WiiM Support, @RyanWithWiim,

Could you look into this bug at the same time you investigate the OP's problem?

I too have this issue with my Wiim Amp. I do not have Alexa or any other voice service enabled.

I have alarms set to stream Amazon music at 0730 for a duration of 4:30 (so that it should end at 1200), and 1200. The alarm at 1200 plays a different selection. But, when this alarm triggers, I get the same situation: alarm chime alternating with the second stream. I think there is a bug that arises when alarms overlap or are contiguous.

Once the condition is triggered, there does not seem to be a way to shut off the alarm chime, except by restarting the Wiim.

I will experiment today, by setting the 0730 alarm to run for 4:25 so that there is no overlap between the two alarms.

If you do get this overlapping of sound, please submit a ticket to WiiM - the more evidence they have, the better chance they'll find a fix
