WiiM Amp Ultra

Hi Cal_Cobra,
how is the sound different between WiiM Amp Pro an WiiM Amp Ultra? I have the WiiM Amp Pro with the Wharfedale Evo 4.4 Speakers and the Sound is good but maybee i by a WiiM Amp Ultra to. Best Regards an sorry for my english.
The WiiM Amp Ultra isn't scheduled to be delivered until next week. Looks like I'll have something fun to do 4th of July weekend other than watch fireworks and drink beer (although the later is important ;)). Once I get it, and get some hours in testing it out, I'll post my initial impressions. I have [gulp] three WiiM Ultras, and a WiiM Amp Pro already, so it'll be interesting to see if the WiiM Amp Ultra is a worthy upgrade.

There are Amp Ultras in the wild and soon those users will report on it. What I hear is that performance is at the VibeLink level.

I saw mention of speaker connecter concerns on a post in here somewhere.
Can you tell if these connectors will work, which is what I have now on the WiiM Amp.

Those connectors should work okay, but the Amp Ultra is supplied with a perfectly good set of banana plugs, so why not try them first.

Definitely will. The lack of clearance around the RCA jacks on the Ultra was an odd oversight, but such an easy fix (literally cost nothing to make the hole around the RCA jack a few mm larger).

Both the vibelink and amp ultra have more (and the same) clearance around the rca jacks than the ultra.
Larger cables are a snug fit, some might still not fit.

What's pretty wild is that these diminutive amps (vibelink and amp ultra) can go toe to toe with much bigger and more expensive amps (yes, yes, size and money do not necessarily a champion make) and barely suffer a nosebleed until things get really heated.
Colour me impressed.

I think this is the first misstep that I have seen in the Wiim eco-system. It makes very little sense to exclude a phono stage, if this is an all in one solution as implied. I would be happy with a slightly taller unit (same box width and depth) that included this. As far as all in ones go it would be better.

I would disagree. It makes perfect sense to me.

None of the WiiM amps have phono stages so by your reckoning it would be the third misstep 🙂

Depends upon what you are after... To me this is a AMP that is focused on stereo output, over surround. Why have an HDMI ARC input when the best you can get out of your sound is 2.1? I know there will be the WIIM sound down the track, however, will need to be convinced when that arrives, that it can, in concert with am AMP like this to provide 5.1. To be honest I I have started to wonder whether, down the track, Wiim will offer an AMP or streamer where the user can select their own inputs and outputs...

You are correct... My apologies, however, this one seems to be the most likely to stand on it's own. It seems to be the most well planned and rounded, as far as capabilities go. Maybe I am missing the point. To me Wiim has always been about music and vinyl seems to be one of the more fun ways of playing music... Potentially a self centred over simplification...

So far there has been exactly one single WiiM device offering a built-in phono pre-amp although all of their products are about music. :) And podcasts. :)

They all do support an external phono stage (including record players with built-in phono stages), so nobody's locked out.

I think you should be looking at products elsewhere. Judging by the above, I really don't think that you're on the WiiM wavelength.
