WiiM Home TV Android App

Initially the TV app running on my Nvidia Shield didn't show any devices. The Shield and all my WiiM's - except Mini (obviously) - are connected to the same network by Ethernet.

I tried it on a generic Android TV box which co-incidentally was only connected by WiFi and it worked. So switched on WiFi on the Shield (with Ethernet still enabled) and it is now working on that too...

I managed to connect without issue on my Google TV 4k, but it seems I can't initialise any streams or any kind of media playback from the app, is that correct? If so, not what I was hoping for.

I don't mean to offend anyone at all, but genuinely don't see the point in the app. Could someone walk me through some usage scenarios please?

Thanks

D.

EDIT - my Wiim is not in the same room as my TV, so I guess I'm losing out on a chunk of functionality there - I get that.

It’s currently meant as little more than a remote display with minimal playback controls, not a replacement for the mobile app. It partly arose out of complaints that the hdmi connection on the ultra and Amps didn’t output video to a screen, and also I guess because of a similar app that Roon users could use to display on a tv screen what was playing (as is often shown in John Darko’s YouTube videos).

If a tv sized now playing screen is of no interest to you, then I guess you’ll not need to use this tv app.

Thank you @WiiM Team the app installed perfectly on my Google TV 4K dongle. I look forward to seeing more features, but for now it displays what's playing perfectly on my 75 inch 4K TV.

I had no issues with installation and it automatically found my WiiM Pro Plus. I didn't need to do anything other than install the app and open it.

Still no luck with my Ultra, I did a factory reset and went through the initial setup again, however there are still no devices shown in the WiiM Home TV app. The Ultra is running the latest May 30 firmware, v5.2.718554.

2024 Google TV Streamer (4K) model, Android TV OS version 14, Android TV build UTTK.250305.003

still no devices shown in the WiiM Home TV

That's strange indeed. I have the 4K Google TV dongle with Android 12 and it was a very easy installation. I didn't even need to select a device. I only have the WiiM Pro Plus, which came up with what was playing straight away when opening the TV app. Did you have anything playing on the Ultra? Probably irrelevant, but my WiiM was playing when I installed the Google TV app.

Only other thing I can think off is a wifi issue perhaps. Are the Ultra and Google TV on the same wifi source?

Installed the app on my Nvidia Shield. Once started, no device shows in the devices list. Tried restarting Ultra and Shield, no effect.
And, both devices are on the same (wired) network.

Update: the tv app works when Shield is connected to wifi rather then cable. 2 things:
  1. this should be clearly stated in the instructions, no reason to make people go mad trying to make it work
  2. it's really funny having to do this in order to make it work. I hope it gets fixed soon

Hi Team,

It seems we have a problem with the Google TV device connected via Ethernet. Our team will reproduce this issue in our lab and fix it shortly. Thank you again for your continued patience and support!

That is strange, as there should be no difference in how a device is connected to the network. An application should not check or utilize a specific kind of connection.
