We're thrilled to announce that the WiiM Home TV app is now available for Fire TV! You can seeing what's playing on WiiM devices on big screens using an Amazon Fire TV. The WiiM Home TV app has basic playback controls and browsing, though it's not a full replacement for a mobile device.

Download the WiiM Home TV app today and elevate your home entertainment! Get it here: WiiM Home TV for Fire TV

The developer needs to include in the app. IIRC Craig has included something similar in Material but it doesn’t work on my Echo Show which still auto closes
I got it working by tapping the play icon on the Show touch screen. At first I thought you could tap anywhere on the screen but obviously you need to tap an active icon.
The browser is still active after 25 minutes 👍

Prompted by this I have just discovered that the Echo Show has a browser and can control and display Material skin for Lyrion 🙂
I use the browser on my Echo Shows as well to show what’s playing on Roon since there is no Fire TV app for Roon - works really well (it’s an extension that can be installed called ‘Roon Web Controller’)

Did you find a way to stop the browser closing after a timeout?

I did not but I saw that earlier post about a potential workaround. It is very annoying how it does that. I remember when Fire TV/Echos allowed the Firefox browser and I used to use that for Roon to show what’s playing, and I don’t think it exited itself after a certain amount of time … but that was so long ago I might be misremembering.

Firefox is still listed in the Web Options of my Echo Show first generation although it doesn't work. You would expect an update to have removed it from the list. Maybe mine is too old to get updates.

Downloader is a good alternative browser for the Echo Shows (and Fire TV) which might give you a better experience (I like how it displays better thank Silk):

Another thought, the WiiM tv apps might give an entry point for universal remote controls - if such can control your Apple/google/fire tv, then it indirectly controls your WiiM devices.

Now if WiiM could add presets to the WiiM tv app (or change inputs at a push), then maybe you could in effect incorporate the WiiM remote functions into the app and hence the universal remote by navigating the tv app screen…
WiiM support have replied “We are integrating the Presets feature into the WiiM Home TV app and plan to release it in a few weeks. Please stay tuned for updates!”

Just for clarity, do you mean you'd use your TV's remote to control your WiiM through the Home TV App?

Yeah, well my harmony remote. Ok. you'd need to navigate to the playback controls rather than say using the play/pause button, but doing that you could replicate most of the WiiM remote functionality on the TV app - and it would control all your Wiim devices simply by selecting the appropriate device. Not that much different to controlling some video or music apps on your tv

It's not possible to sideload apps to the Show 8 or 5.
Agreed - but he’s talking about the Echo Shows 15 which is what I was responding to. No sideloading required for this browser for devices such as: Echo Show 15 or 21, Fire HD8 Plus, Fire HD10 Plus, Fire HD 8, etc. in addition to Fire TV devices (Stick, Cube). It’s natively supported on quite a few devices using the Amazon App Store.

No, I literally said "Echo Show first generation"
