Wiim Sub Pro. Any benefit?

In my 16'x24' living room I have Wiim Amp Ultra wired to a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 6 speakers. This combination provides decent sound quality and plenty of low end oomph as it is currently set up. I was wondering if any sub pro users could tell me if adding one to my system (it would have to be in a corner location) would provide any benefit? I mainly listen to music but occasionally run movies through the optical out from my TV.

Mine is in a much smaller room than yours, measuring approximately 9' x 14', and the Sub Pro is well away from any walls, or corners for that matter.

It is used with my Ultra + Vibelink combination, and a pair of JPW Sonata loudspeakers. The Sub Pro is certainly beneficial in this system, and provides very good bass extension for music, and TV use. I am very pleased with it.

I have a Sub Pro paired with a Wiim Amp Ultra playing in a much larger room and the Sub Pro fills the low end rather nicely. It is not a movie sound effects monster (never tried it that way) but when I turn the Sub Pro off the sense of a real acoustic presentation is diminished. So… yes I think it adds value.

Thanks for the helpful replies. My room layout means that it would have to be placed in a corner and that RoomFit would allow me to sort out any issues. I've only had my Wiim Amp Ultra for a few weeks and it's brought new life to my old music collection. I think I'll give it a few more weeks before deciding on whether or not to get the sub pro or not.

In my opinion adding a subwoofer is beneficial in most cases.
Even if you don't gain much low frequency extension, a carefully placed and properly integrated sub can help with some typical acoustical issues (like SBIR dips), and can consequently get you a smoother bass response. Perhaps this post on placement might be interesting.

Unfortunately I don’t have any practical experience with the Sub Pro specifically. From the specs it seems OK for the size, but more powerful alternatives exist in the price range. Those wouldn't have all the same functionality, however.

EDIT: By the way, corner location for a sub is a very good choice as long as you use room correction (e.g. RoomFit). Corner sub placement results in more headroom and avoids severe response dips caused by SBIR. It also triggers all strong room resonances, but that is easily fixed by room correction so not an issue really.

Generally speaking, adding a sub (or more) offloads main speakers' low frequency duty and thus reduce level of distortion for the main (or increase headroom).

My thoughts exactly. Unless you have some really, really high end speakers and a lot of amplifier driving them, a powered sub adds that bottom that most mains cannot comfortably deliver, if at all. And, as you said, it ‘frees up’ the mains from having to work that hard at the lower frequencies. I swear my mains sound better all around when the sub is on with the crossover at 120. Since I added one to my system over 20 years ago, I can’t live without one.

The focus here is the Sub Pro… and that has a great synergy with WiiM Amps and excels with the Amp Pro.
