WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.714249 - Apr 18, 2025

Regarding Vu-Meter:
- More natural movement according to music 👍
- no delay (before I noticed a delay of sound compared with needle movement) 👍
- Regarding the levels: I have all my library with replaygain info and I use album gain leveling. What I notice is that the 0dB mark matches (at least to my eye observation) to the max level of the reference of replaygain. Altough I'm not discussing this at a scientific level, it works for me as when something passes the 0dB level is because I forgot to add replaygain info to it. 😉

Wich to have (as stated before in other threads from many users):
- an horizontal stereo LED vu-meter (much easier to see at 3-4 meters distance). This one would permit easily to have the track info at the same type (example, leds at 50% top and info at the 50% bottom);
- at least more width on the needles of current ones to better watching (right now I can only use the black background one because with the others I almost can't see the needles...)
Hi pjorgenunes,

Thank you for sharing your suggestions. We will work on improving the width of the needles and will further discuss how to implement the horizontal stereo LED VU meter.

Please also adjust the scale to fit the digital dBFS volume, with absolute max at 0 dBFS (volume value all 1's). A digital signal don't have any positive gain

It sounds to me like the top priority for a fix (if not outright revert) should be to get rid of the behavior to force the TV away from ARC when the toggle is on and CEC is wanted, for the "always Ultra, never TV speakers" case.

I haven't seen any requests for this behavior and it's hard to imagine when it's badly wanted (as opposed to a minor convenience for the Ultra+speakers case - one can always switch the TV to speakers manually during times of cacophony). I can see how it's badly disliked by some. I can also imagine it making sense in the code (where TV output state is always synchronized with the Ultra input state), but it ought to be at least optional if not altogether omitted.

I think you are right, but let me just say one thing. This is not a matter of preference, it doesn't matter if like or not. I just want broken toys fixed😉

Then, fixing whatever is making @hgo58 's TV revert back to ARC out with the switch off - best to always be ARC-unavailable in standby, which would also fix my lesser problem of leaving the TV in ARC out and having it wake up the Ultra and associated $$$ electronics the next time it's turned on for a 10% volume watching session.

Thanks for your continued attention @WiiM Support! 🙏

e.g., My Yamaha AVR has two setting toggles, "HDMI Control (CEC)" and "ARC".
(Actually, there is also a standby through, but I won't go into that here.)

When HDMI Control is turned on, ARC is turned on by default. And on top of that, I can turn ARC off. (sure I have never used it..)

If I'm not misunderstand, a separate toggle for CEC and ARC on the WiiM would solve this problem.

And in the future, the ARC toggle should be included in the smart presets so that Remote can switch between TV speakers and WiiM speakers.
(sure I have never use it..)

For me the ARC toggle is the input selection, at least when CEC Power Control is off.

You cannot have ARC without CEC. But CEC Power Control is just one of the CEC functions. Volume Control is another.

So with CEC Power Control on, always ARC on. With CEC Power Control off, only ARC when selected as input. This shall be true at any time, both when Ultra is in standby and active, and when TV is turned on or already on.

At least my AVR does not.
Even with ARC turned off, the AVR turns on in conjunction with the TV (projector) on. I just checked.
That is correct behaviour. But you should not get any sound on AVR then.

I was just saying that I think we have the needed options, just need a bit of rework of functions (and a better name).

Sorry, I wrote it wrong. Actually it is the other way around.

There are two types of power control I can do between my AVR and the projector.

1) Projector off -> AVR off
2) AVR on -> projector on

If the AVR's CEC is on and ARC is off, turning the projector on will not turn the AVR on, so will allow the projector's speakers to output audio.

Please also implement true peak values or at least over indicators when amplitude exceeds 0 dBFS for the original signal. And the positive gain if there is one as a result of the DSP in the Output Amplitude mode.

You can only get positive dB on the analog output. 0 dBFS is max value for the volume.

dBFS=20*log10(volume/max-volume)

Peak indicator is if a single sample value is max.

Output meter shall be before DAC (digital output) but after all DSP.

Input meter shall be before volume control but after pre-gain.
