This is something I've been looking forward to so I can setup the Wiim Amp and Wiim Amp Pro I gifted to my parents to access my large plex audio library (without resorting to installing tailscale on their networks). I really hope it works it's way down to these Wiim Amp devices. I thought it might be provided earlier by the "remote streaming over WAN" feature that was included in "WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.738432 Update - Dec 12, 2025" but that didn't seem to allow the Ultra to connect to Plex remotely (from a different network connected to the Internet).

I tested this with one of my Ultras that received 5.2.804553 and it's working as expected. Here's how I validated it:
  1. Starting with my current configuration (two Ultras connected to the same local network as the Plex server)...
  2. Set my locally wifi connected phone to share a tethered wifi connection
  3. Configured the updated Ultra to change networks, connecting through the phone's tethered shared wifi connection
  4. Disabled the phone's wifi so it lost local network access (losing the ability to reach the second Ultra but retaining connection to the updated Ultra because it was connected to my phone's wifi tether). This forced the updated Ultra to access my Plex server from the internet.
  5. On the update Ultra (using the Wiim Connect phone app still), browsed to my Plex server and played a random playlist. This introduced slight latency to the browsing and skipping and song art loading but it was very acceptable and usable and worked very well for me.
  6. I then verified that the non-updated Ultra could not do the same by repeating the above steps for it.
Over all I'm happy with this update but until it works its way down to the Wiim Amp/Wiim Amp Pro I'm still stuck sharing music via USB (not ideal since the random song size limit it very low) or building and installing tailscale on a Pi.

Thanks to the Wiim team for all of the updates.

That's not what I meant. Of course, I can play via USB or via smartphone and Bluetooth, including Audible audiobooks.
But it should be possible for the WiiM Ultra to stream Audible audiobooks directly without any detours.
I'm not alone in this request; there's a thread about it—but nothing is happening. Not even a response from WiiM itself.
I wonder what poeple have in their heads. You cannot seriuosly expect that WiiM integrates every available streaming service.
You should rather apply to your streaming service that they support casting to UPnP end points in their apps.

I agree that it’s unreasonable to expect the WiiM home app to be the one and only, all-singing, all-dancing app to play content on WiiM devices. In the case of Audible, I think Sonos have the only third party implementation but with less features than the native Audible app, while the latter supports AirPlay or Chromecast depending on the platform so has no difficulty sending its audio to a WiiM device. As I’ve said before, we don’t have one universal app that supports all the video streaming services we might have, but that doesn’t stop us watching tv…

From an objective point of view Bluetooth will be more than sufficient for audio books/Audible.

Mine got it in the last day or so too.
And I see there's a beta released on Jan 14 too that I hadn't noticed before. Not that I check the beta screen very often so it may have been there for a week already.
