Wiim Ultra vs Node Icon

Does Dirac really magically remove reverb?
Dirac is essential for the time alignment of the subwoofer and low frequencies, it can also do a lot to mitigate the effects of early reflections and despite Darko's empirical conclusions, it can also reduce the subjective perception of an excessive RT60 which is however the most easily correctable parameter, even just with a careful placement of the furniture, unlike resonant nodes, which in fact cannot be treated.
Definitely not magic and more real than many "impressionist" reviews... 😎

But you're still stuck with the same set of old ears😀

I love the term "impressionists" and will start using it from today on. 😁

I use Dirac with an Emotiva XMC-1 prepro for multichannel music and movies. I find it does an excellent job with my two Rythmik F12SE subs and the blending of my surrounds with the LCR speakers. I do not use my subs for two channel music as I'm using a Wyred 4 Sound preamp with home theater bypass.

With the addition of Dirac and the room calibration kit it raises the cost of the Icon $288.00. So that would be $1,287.00 which is becoming a bit expensive IMO.

Or one could buy the WiiM Ultra and add an external minidsp Dirac unit for $449.00. The total would be $778.00 which is a $509.00 savings when compared to the Icon with Dirac.

MiniDSP site, says 495 + 199$ for Flex + Dirac license. Anyway it's a more versatile solution.

Maybe now there will finally be some more reviews dropping on YouTube and on Hi-Fi oriented sites...

BlueSound wants some of that HifiRose/Auralic top end money it seems...

I thought the license came with it. I missed that. Still less expensive. Definitely more versatile as you could use the MiniDSP with other components if a change is made.

The regular miniDSP 2x4 HD come without the Dirac license and is $225.

The DDRC-24 should include the license at $449.

I'm pretty sure you can buy the licence separately for the 2x4 HD later.

Edit:
Yep,. that's right. This piece of information is well hidden on their website now:

Conclusion: 449 USD buy you a Dirac Live room processor, including the software and the hardware (except for the microphone).

And everything is resampled to 48 kHz which triggers the discussion about audibility.
According to the 2x4 HD datasheet internal processing is done at 96 kHz (unlike with the old miniDSP 2x4), but there are still one more A/D and one more D/A conversion going on with this platform (when using the analogue input).

Isn’t the same thing with wiim when you run rc? I see the display 48 kHz when doing the sweep. What should be ideal in rc 44.1?

The amount of tweaking and flexibility on mini dsp justify its price. I don’t know if paying for Dirac justify the cost. Question how much improvement over wiim rc?
