I had the same sub. Correct it doesn't have a bypass setting, max is 85hz.

Yep it's pretty basic. Sonically works OK for me, though it doesn't have much of a volume headroom, but I'm not trying to break the walls in my house. However, I will re-run the RC but with the sub off as there may be some crossover effects contaminating the measurements.

I wonder who came up with that design decision.

With an acclaimed frequency response of 35Hz to 110Hz (no level specified, could be -3 dB, -10 dB or just anything) a range of crossover frequencies between 35 Hz and 85 Hz and no LFE is pretty ridiculous.

But as long as it works well enough ...
