Ongoing Beta Beta Test: DLNA Cast

I'm not sure, but this DLNA Casting feature is intended for a WiiM device to be able to cast to other DLNA enabled speakers, such as Sonos, Bose speakers, and more.

My RIVA Festival, and Arena Speakers support DLNA up to 24 bit 192 kHz, but have never worked properly with any of the betas so far.
They also don't work with the released version of DLNA Out on the Ultra.

They do however work properly if I cast from Lyrion Media Server on my Raspberry Pi, and support the full 24 bit 192 kHz as expected.
@QuarryHunslet - are you using the UPnP/DLNA Bridge plugin? If so do these devices work fully with it e.g. respond properly to play/pause, gapless etc?

Yes, I'm using UPnP/DLNA bridge 3.3.9, but I'm not really sure what you mean about play/pause, so I have just tested a Festival, and yes it responded properly to play/pause, and track skipping via the speaker buttons, and the buttons in the Lyrion interface.

As for gapless, I tried the Beatles Abbey Road medley, and unfortunately it wasn't gapless.

Play/pause - some devices just don't respond properly e.g. with a noticable delay before either action happens.
Gapless - very few early UPnP/DLNA devices properly supported gapless

The UPnP/DLNA Bridge does a good job but it is rarely perfect by any means. I have two Onkyo's - an AVR and a CD Receiver - that hardly work at all. One now has a WiiM Pro attached and the other has a Pi.

ether integrate the beta for the WiiM Pro dated 01/25 into a coming up firmware release (as it works for me and doesn't seem to hurt users not using this feature) or drop it.
Hi,
can you confirm the target devices that are working for you ?
Like others I have had mixed results

Thanks

I'm going by the title. 😉
And my post that triggered all of todays activity simply targets the fact that WiiM Home app invites me to a beta test that made no progress for half a year.
As I've mentioned previously in this thread, I believe that there needs to be another few beta releases before this should even be considered as fit for release.

I have been in this beta from the very start, post #3 in this thread to be precise. This was meant to be a replacement for the other fully working casting method that was removed from all WiiM Devices previously.

Yes, and I'm stuck on a very old firmware because of that feature. I would love to get DLNA Cast working and update to get all the new features but I need a reliable way to cast.

Yes, I wish I had kept at least one device on that firmware.

Sorry i'm not so deeply involved in the WiiM ecosystem as you are (obviously). I'll try to formulate my next post more carefully. Peace.
