Ongoing Beta Beta Test: Plex

It's working normally now. Feels like non-beta like its polished. Very satisfied. Did not change any settings and was not using docker previously. What is strange is I do not think there have been any firmware updates ; I was on beta firmware when I was having problems with plex and I think I am still on the same one . Great job WiiM Team. Plex seems to be working beautifully.
It does play, it is stable, but the way they have currently implemented it, has its limitations.

Say for example if you have your Plex server at a safe remote location (or just on a different network than the Ultra), it doesn't work. The current implementation requires the WiiM device and the server to be on the same network. This kind of defeats one of the main selling points of Plex(amp) in general: access to your media from anywhere outside of the server network.

The browsing/searching experience from inside the WiiM Home app leaves a lot to be desired as well, especially compared to Plexamp.

@WiiM Team gave us the impression they went back to the drawing board with some involvement from the Plex side as well. Most of us are still hoping for the WiiM devices to be able to act as endpoints for the native Plex apps at some point, but half a year later no news.

Looking for a way to shuffle my entire Plex music library.
When you shuffle a large playlist, the Wiim just grabs 500 songs from the playlist and shuffles those.
So I made a smart playlist that excludes songs played in the last few months.
This works fine when you browse to the playlist through the Wiim app. It grabs 500 songs from the current playlist songs and shuffles them.
However, when you add the playlist as a preset to the Wiim, it plays the same 500 songs every time. It also starts with the same song every time, even when the preset is set to shuffle (Ultra).

So, it would be nice if a Plex playlist is refreshed, when playing it from a preset.

Yeah this behaviour has been noticed in other services too - it would be nice if a preset actually did just link to a playlist rather than what appears to be the current queue.

Raise a ticket to WiiM to,ask them to change this behaviour.

It’s not as if they’ve been sitting on their hands doing nothing given the regularity of firmware and app releases, and in this case, it also needs input from Plex who I last recall reading had a demanding development workload themselves.

@RyanWithWiiM , any updates for the impatient amongst us? 😉😜

So they should say so. Their communication is poor the same with the the Qobuz firmware which had no updates for months with some glaring issues. I know you are some kind of WiiM apologist but they need to communicate more especially to people involved in beta programmes not just go silent for months at a time. It was taking so long I was considering switching to another platform that had it working a long time ago.

“Some kind of WiiM apologist” just because I have more patience and understanding of software development than others? Ah, the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune that I have to bear 🤣🤣

Maybe if it had been an upgrade I had already paid for that was running late I might sympathise, but these are free updates adding functionality to a piece of kit that was presumably bought for what it offered at the time of purchase.
