Ongoing Beta Beta Test: Qobuz Connect

Ultra master in multiroom setup: Issue

Posting this here as I haven't seen it mentioned in the main forums, and it could simply be an odd interaction between the QC beta firmware (5.2.711349(beta)) and the Android WHA version I'm on (3.1.6.250310.dcd3ee). Just this morning I'm unable to add a Pro to the Ultra to form a multiroom group. I can select the Pro and click Done, but on the main Devices screen they remain ungrouped. Oddly, I can group successfully in the other direction (add the Ultra to the Pro). I've rebooted both devices but no joy. Will report to WiiM shortly but wondering whether anybody else can replicate the issue. Cheers!

ETA: Might try a full power down on the Ultra rather than a simple reboot, but I'm a little loath to factory reset at this stage.

Ok for me with the same Android version and the Ultra and Pro on the latest Qobuz Connect beta. I do notice a very slight pause on going back to the devices screen before they show up as grouped (tbh, can’t recall if that’s what normally happened), but fine otherwise.

Thanks. I've done some more testing, and I think there's definitely an issue with the Ultra pairing with either of my Pros. All of them have the QC beta firmware. I did do a hard restart on the Ultra before the latest round of tests.

I've currently got 4 WiiMs:
  • Ultra
  • Pro#1
  • Pro#2
  • C10
The Ultra will pair with the C10, but with neither of the Pros. Each Pro will pair with all the others. The C10 will pair with all the others. I've confirmed this on two different Android phones with the latest WHA version, so I'm pretty sure it's not something an app uninstall/reinstall will affect.

I've subsequently returned one of the Pro devices to GA production firmware and retested, but that had no effect.

The other change is what you've also noticed -- and it's definitely new -- a pause of about a second or two after tapping Done and returning to the Devices screen before any pairing is reflected there (unpairings are instant, though). I don't know what's causing that, but I can think of a few possible explanations.

I think the only thing I can try next will be to factory reset the Ultra and test it with both GA and Beta firmware. But I definitely won't like rebuilding my presets and other configs afterwards. :(

ETA: Factory reset with installation of most recent QC beta firmware restored proper multiroom function!

A revision to the beta Android app just dropped. Still labeled "qconnect-beta07". I'll test later today, though I'm tempering any expectations.

ETA: Someone in the Qobuz Club forum mentioned that it fixed an issue for him related to discovery in the Denon/Marantz/HEOS environment. Don't know if it tweaks anything else (yet), and so it may have no effect in a WiiM ecosystem.

ETA#2: Just tested multiroom 16/44, and it still sucks. I really can't get my head around it if WiiM and Qobuz don't already know exactly what the problem is and have figured out how to eliminate it.

Do you mean the CD group issue?
Enabling multiroom with my Ultra as master and Pro devices as slaves. For some unknown reason that functionality stopped working and apparently nothing short of a factory reset on the Ultra was able to fix it.

16/44 in multiroom still sounded like audio poo-poo, unfortunately (though nobody will be happier than I if this morning's Android beta app revision fixes that!). ETA: But it doesn't. 😡

Could somebody tell me the advantages of Qobuz Connect over choosing the normal Qobuz section of the Wiim Home app? Also, is it available to all at this point? I think I saw a way to add it in the app a few days ago but forgot how I found it. (I’m on an iPad Pro)

No need to bring up the WiiM Home App at all; just use your normal Qobuz app, which has quite a few advantages.

For example, my dad and I are both using Qobuz and we frequently want to share music. With the Qobuz app, I can pull a link for albums or tracks that I can text him to pull the same song/track up immediately in Qobuz on his Qobuz app. Once Qobuz Connect goes final, we will be able to immediately play the album/track right off this link. Right now what happens is one of us takes a screenshot of a song or album, sends that to the other, then the other goes into WiiM Home App's Qobuz integration, has to do a search to find the album or track, then can play it.

In a nutshell, it lets you retain all the pretty significant functionality and UX advantages of Qobuz's native mobile apps, and enabling your chosen content to be streamed directly from the Qobuz cloud to your WiiM devices. WHA has only a subset of these, and is not capable of providing some important native features, IMHO.

It's not GA yet, but we're in the later stages of the beta (some issues remain to be worked out), and I'm hopeful it'll be rolled out by early summer.

And you can say much the same for Amazon Music, Tidal etc - the native apps tend to have greater functionality and get new features sooner than made available to third parties thru the relevant APIs. That’s part of the reason why I don’t see the WiiM home app ever being the single, universal app for all services that WiiM devices support that some think it should be - the APIs won’t allow them to compete with Connect/casting mechanisms.

Hello all!
Sorry but I don't understand if Qobuz connect is now available for all (non beta users)?
If yes I will upgrade my system to Wiim pro+ instead mini. If no I keep the mini.
Thanks

No, it’s not yet publicly available. I think someone said earlier that they thought an early summer release was possible.
